That Odin is the Sword, the weilder is just the tempered person who last deteated Odin and took up the sword. That the sword contains enough Aether to temper the wielder. The duskwright Elezan was probably the first one to find the Sword after it was freed

Making it that which was contained within Urths, clamaity broke the seal, some one came along saw the big shiny sword, picked it up and went all I....Have... THE....POWEEEERRR! and become Odin.
