to me is not annoying to be honest, as I prefer to be called by my job then see my name written totally wrong or shorten that annoys me more. Besides some names are so dumb to write that is almost impossible to memorize it and when you play and are the middle of a fight and need something form bard, and that one is called, zhgtdheztgvdb (example of course), you are faster in typing BARD then that name that I showed....
So yeah even if annoying is less annoying then my name written wrong...lol
Between the two evils, take the lesser one...

OP this is the behaviour in every MMO. People in party usually refer to people by their roles. It happened all the time in WoW and no doubt it happened in other MMOs as well.

Which is why it annoys me. Again, I have begun to connotate this behavior over the years with people who are exceptionally unpleasant to be around. Therefore, it annoys me.
It just so happens that tonight was...a rather unpleasant circumstance.
I'd also like to bring awareness that this does irritate some people, despite how common it is. There CAN be a time and place for it, but it gets ridiculous. Makes me feel like I'm going to get told to put the lotion on my skin or else I get the hose again.

I hate it "drg can you not stun" snorts a tank or whatever, and it just gets my back up.
I have a name, don't even mind if there's a typo when you call it me.
The only times i refer to some as job name is when im trying to say something quick, i.e during titan the otherday i was tanking, noticed ninja wasnt attacking the stone (healer trapped) even though i signed it 1.
I have entered a few dungeons to get hi tank, which i response hi dps. I generally find we a have quite a bit fun and people chat at least its not silence D:

Might be faster in those instances to just type <#> (replacing # with the party members position on the list) and what you wanna say. "<2> can you sing me a song please?" With the Bard being in the #2 slot on your party list. It's how I do it and is working well so far.

Sounds like special snowflake syndrome. I've seen tons of players shorten names, though, so I don't see how this is an issue for the TC.
Unless you're in a group of people you communicate with often, it's just gonna happen. Nobody is gonna take the time to type your name in quick situations.
This is why you name your character something that can get a nickname easily for people or at least be typed easily.

I've played WoW for years before finally quitting and moving onto FFXIV. Honestly, I don't care what strangers call me. It is just a title and they are strangers to me. It would almost be weirder for them to call you by name because all you say at the start of dungeon is, "hello" "hey" "hi" "Nice to meet you" "Let's go" etc. You do not have a huge introduction introducing yourself to other players unless you RP in every DF group.
It would be different if it was a RP run.
I try to use names or short versions of it but gotta admit that at times due to lazyness/a general bad vision I do not read name and use the job name or for duties where you registered name at start but forget in heat of battle and its sth that really has to happen FAST same thing i say "drg u need to...." or simple for bards the usual "MP" "TP" msg in chat and dont think my friends or randoms mind that i adress em randomly like that.
(Or my lovely "PET" msg for my friends in T5 :P)
