I'm not quite to the point of unsubbing over Hunts, but the fact that SE keeps pushing them as the Be-All, End-All method of gearing up is definitely making me hate Hunts more and more.

It's actually kinda funny, when I first heard about them being introduced I was super-excited. I figured they'd play out kinda like in FFXII, where you picked up the mark, talked to the client (who, by the way, would be people other than the Grand Company leaders), fulfilled the spawn conditions, and then fought the mark with a small group of friends (or perhaps strangers you recruited via PF). You would then go and talk to the client again, get your reward, and perhaps you'd even get some points towards a ranking system used to determine if you could accept tougher Hunts.

Nothing about that system would prevent it from being Open World. Sure, only the people in your party get the reward, but then again, how's that any different from how Hunts are currently being handled? If you aren't in a party, you get absolutely nothing, because there's no way you'll be able to amass enough credit in the 10 seconds the mark is alive when on your own. Heck, even when you AREN'T on your own, you still might not get credit! By following the FFXII example more closely, not only is that issue solved, but it also would allow for more interesting battles! Think about what it's like fighting the Alpha Chimera or Alpha Morbol from the Peisteskin maps; Fights of a similar difficulty, but scaled up for more than just 3 i90-geared players, or perhaps scaled down for only 1 if it's just a B-Rank. Heck, the B-Ranks could have more going for them than just having humongous gobs of HP and hitting a little harder than basic monsters!

Anyway, tl;dr, SE should've made Hunts more like how they were done in FFXII, and less like the zerg rush lagfests they are now.

I totally understand everyone's reaction about this. I agree its too early to give early access to 130 upgrades but think of it this way, SE is just encouraging us to gear up all our classes. Remember this ilvl 130 gear is the last set of gear we have before the expansion. Also a lot of people are already clearing t12 but despite that a lot are also lacking on gear upgrades(ehem..2 months now since I got my last dreadwyrm upgrade). It's also a way to keep hunts alive.

This patch is a giveaway to us and there's a reason for it. I wont even be surprised if they removed the loot lockout on fcob before the expansion.

The expansion is coming and people need to gear up, opening up other methods to get that gear is the best solution. Especially since if you like coils etc you can get it from them, if like hunts can get it from them, if like raids can get it from them...all these things are optional so people unsubbing because of it is kinda of stupid unless your ego is so fragile you cannot get over the fact there are multiple ways to upgrade before the expansion and you have methods to choose from which appeal to you personally and methods you can ignore.

Dunno why everybody is complaining. If you don't want to do the hunts, then don't do the hunts. If you don't want others to gear up that easily, mind your own business. If you're in final coil and feel cheated, know that they don't have a chance to get the Dreadwyrm items; you do. Let them have peace.

If I have a response, make it constructive and not insultive.

Its not about others getting the Carboncoats/Carbontwines, the issue I have with it is that hunts don't work well with lots of people, and having the best gear in the game come from hunts draws lots of people to them - putting hunts right up where they are weakest.

I don't even mind them eventually dropping off hunts, but as was mentioned earlier, the order that they add the items should be reversed where the weekly lockout sources (LotA/ST/WoD quest) get the items added first, and hunts being later. I really like the weekly quest idea as a way to get the upgrade items because it allows people to roll on WoD gear and helps keep everything from going to the floor as everyone tries to save up for the upgrade item.

This isn't about coil raiders feeling cheated that their work is going to wast, its that hunts don't work well for the first wave of upgrade items to become available outside of coil.

I know this is directed at my unsub comment, so in response to your insult, I would say if you have a response you should do research and answer questions not answered in mmo 101 before making insulting posts.
You are saying if you don't want to do hunts, don't do hunts. You have virtually zero understanding of the problem going on here if that's your answer, and to attack people that are genuinely upset with this model while bringing forth nothing but ignorance to the table and disguising it as constructive is even more insulting.

Hunts are the only way to go beyond the weekly cap right now and offer rewards far and beyond anything you could possibly spend your time on once the 2 hours it takes to hit the cap through CT has been reached. Hunts themselves are pulling teeth, I'm sorry you think it's insulting but I find your ability not to understand the complex social infrastructure of how it forces a logical player to spend their time doing hunts a hundred fold more insulting.

It's really stupid that the CT quest doesn't offer one but hunts, which are basically glorified FATEs, do. I hope this garbage content gets changed significantly in the expansion.

Hunts are poorly designed, but in my opinion give people stuff to actually do outside coils. hunts > dungeons easily in my eyes. Nothing fun about spaming dungeons for tokens at the end either. At least hunts it is not a 20-30min dedication of your life to the unfunness.

The problem with the game is there is a massive lack of relevant content endgame. They added WoD... which ok that gives you maby 1.5-3hrs a week of content. The primals do not drop anything this patch besides vanity so no lasting content there. Shiva is played out and the new story last what 2-3hrs tops.

Coil is not enough for those with a lot of time on their hands. Which is where hunts fill the void. No lockouts, valid rewards, not locked into a party/solo in the open world. Why they are popular.

Hunts are an unmarked fate... that is the problem, fates are not good designed content due to the mindless zerg mentality they bring. In my opinion hunts should be open world solo/party/alliance force spawn nms in my opinion. Could of even tied them into free company points for guilds, Grand company points for pugs, and rare drop from say treasure maps and fates.

I love NM camping was one of my favorite things in XI, but this version of them needs to be revised. Open world > Instance content, but not this open world content. But with that said having hunts is better then nothing.

As for this negating WoD... yea it is a problem. Why is WoD a weekly lockout? that is the problem reduce the lockout to 72hrs or something.

The problem is not that hunting's rewards are too much better than other forms of content or that casual players suddenly have access to the mythical i130 gear bracket.

The problem is that it's downright insulting that the day-to-day filler content of an otherwise-capped player to progress is, according to S-E, walking up to an anemic pinata in an unwashed horde and blasting Flash and Medica at it nonstop instead of actually using the combat system they designed. And, rather than in 2.3, where it felt more like an oversight, this is a deliberate design decision made by people who now know the consequences of what they are doing.

We spend hours battling through some of the most challenging fights the game claims it has to offer, and this is the next step?

FFXII Hunts already, this FATE content is annoying ;/ (imo). Laggy, mindless, fairly easy (if you don't come late) - incredibly repetitive. Watched a friend play on ps3 - pretty much when popular hunt content is a ps3 excluded content.

    I do not like Hunts, and I do not like green eggs and ham.. >.>;;
