I think it's pretty safe to assume that the OP meant by "option", they meant to only toggle off last names for him/her.
Of course it would be ridiculous if it turned off their surname for everyone.

If such a feature were to be put in place, it would work like the current toggle for turning names on or off like we currently have.

They should give us the option to toggle off players names, our own names, mob names and NPC names, currently all you can do is disable every name. I would very much like more options, i know what my damned character is called, i should be able to toggle it off.

If they do intend to implement more toggle options for names in the future it would be nice to have them all in one patch, too.

Why not just have the option to toggle last names, toggle your own name (I know who I am, I dont need my name there) and a size toggle, so if you want to see the last name but think names clutter the screen (I do) you can resize names to make them smaller.

Having toggle options will make everyone happy, those who like it the way it is will stay happy and those who want the options toggled will be happy, everyone wins!

I think these two statements pretty much end the thread. Just need to start pushing for these changes.

I don't think this is even necessary. Sometimes there can be too many toggles in a game.

I feel the option for characters with linked Final Fantasy XI names should had this.

At least 6 people thought I was a girl because of my Siren server name. bah!

I have no problem with surnames, I actually like it. Was like oooh me and my wife can get same surname with male/female char (later found out she decided to play Elezen male... lol)

Only thing I would want is easier way to send tell when typing lol but if its friends you can open /flist up and send tell from there... specially hard for those that are like... Masamune Aaaaaaaaaaaa (just example)...
