I don't know what to think of that site. For the color change I made it suggested a total of 34 fruit. I opted for a completely different approach and 14 fruit later I had the color I was after.

For example, to reach Dalamud Red that site recommends several fruit including 16 pears. But in reality you don't need to feed it a single pear to reach Dalamud Red.

There are multiple paths to each color and the some paths are more optimal than others. I believe the site calculates fruit based on the exact RGB values of the color (or a best guess since we don't actually know in game values) but you really only have to get closer to your desired color than you are to any other. (There are over 16 million possible RGB values, but only 85 possible colors - the target areas are fairly broad). Pears to reach Dalmud Red because all 3 RGB values need to be lowered - it makes sense and is probably easy to calculate, but it may not be the most efficient route.

I had the same experience. I managed to get Snow White with out the 13 × Valfruit that site says to use. Valfruit is stupid expensive on my server so I saved 100k by not using it.
