Insight You've Gained by Playing Different Jobs

To all of my fellow heroes who have leveled multiple jobs to 50 (and still play them) how has being a "jack of all trades" enhanced your insight about others and how they play? For example, if you main WHM but also casually play WAR, are you more sympathetic to tanks or do you expect more because you know the job?

I main SCH but also have BRD at a similar ilvl (110, 108 respectively) and have been critical of some DPS lately in ST for moving out of range of healing spells. It drives me nuts when I see your HP at 10% but you're on the other side of the platform from the rest of the group. Having run ST as a BRD over the past week, I can now see how easy it is to drift out of range, but its just one more thing that we need to pay attention to. (And there's really no reason to not pay attention to your positioning with certain exceptions).

Playing SCH and BRD has also reminded me that there is no excuse for not playing songs. Dammit use Mages Ballad when you see healers are running out of MP. /slap

What about you? Doesn't have to be battle related...maybe you just sympathize with DPS because of their ridiculous queue time?

Tanks need to position themselves, so BLM can AOE properly.
Tanks need to stand still, so melees can hit mobs/do positionals.
Tanks shouldn't pull more than they can handle, in terms of keeping aggro, and staying alive.
Tanks tend to believe they are invincible, just cause they got high ilv...you're not, so use defensive buffs, instead of blaming healers, when you die.
WHM who use fluid, are annoying as hell, for melees.
Melees need to swap targets, if they are close to overaggro tank.
BLM need to let tanks get aggro, before Flare'ing away.
Fairies don't care about tanks, unless they are close...so SCH should micro manage fairy, or stand closer to tanks.
if you're nin, and run out of TP, you can expect other melees did too, so goad them when you use invigorate.
if you got multiple melees, goad one early, so their TP stays high, then you can goad someone else, by the time their TP gets low.
and yah, i heal sometimes, and ppl being out of range, is annoying

Yes! Fluid Aura can be helpful...but only in certain situations. The two situations I've found it to be helpful are when DPSing (with Cleric Stance on) against a boss mob who is immune to the kickback and in low level dungeons when a tank can't/won't grab hate from a rogue mob.

it's fine to fluid, as a off-gcd-dd, if mob is close to a wall, and fluid doesn't actually move the mob.
it's actually annoying to brd/casters as well, if fluid knocks them behind you, and skills interrupts.

Why you go posting my post! :P

Luckily I hadn't played the game too long before realizing it, but it was pretty funny to experience just how annoying sloppy re-positions by the tank could be as positional DD (and the push back abilities have always been annoying unless you're the owner of the spell lol). I mean as tank I was vaguely aware of it, but playing DD made me think about it on a different level. Specially as dragoon dat damage buff being missed because of needless movement, *flips the tank's table* (but that's now fixed).

When a person playing bard can move and shot they are crazy over powered.
Sometimes spamming overpower is the only way to get hate, when DPS are all attacking different mobs.
You never need to mark mobs if you understand how the pulls work.
Regen give hate at beginning of pulls.
WHM can cut there enmity if 1/2 when they do something stupid and keep spamming high enmity spells to the point where a tank can't get enmity back.

I also occasionally play BLM and for the life of me I don't understand why they don't think about enmity generation during their rotation. If you keep getting hate, stop casting for a second or two and let the tank get that under control before you start mashing buttons again!

Valid only for mob #1. After it is killed, dps may start attacking different mobs, since there is no way to predict, what mob tank will decide to target as second.

I found out knockback works on the dragons in Snowcloak and it interrupts their AOE, so feel free to use Fluid Aura on them as long as you push it into a wall.

I learned being a tank is not an easy task and you bear the safety of the party on your shoulders.
