the old sites should be kept up.....after they make an intro for them where dalamud smashes into them rendering them useless.

I'm really upset that it's going away.
Yeah I didn't use it too much. But I knew my legacy was safely stored where I could look back any time.
I suppose it had to happen eventually. A little more forewarning would be nice. Maybe I could have given a farewell blog entry as my first and last entry!

I never played 1.0, so I honestly can't say nothing for or against your point, but alot of that sounds interesting as hell.
And for me, I use my alts, brother's toon and FC as standins for the alliances and storyline itself. It's alot more epic when you envision your characters' personalities jelling with the events as well as your FC mates wrecking house in the final part of the main storyline(Minfillia literally states dozens of FCs are joining in on the battles, there's no excuse).
So that's how I get past that block but otherwise, that does bug me way too much about the story as they act as if the Echo is THAT rare yet the player characters all over the place say otherwise...

Yeah, I'm surprised that they've decided to shut down the old Lodestone completely, which is even more surprising given the fact it was already archived anyway - even though player profiles and pages were no longer editable, the old Grand Company info and newspaper articles were still good to refer back to for lore stuff - the various Letters from the Producer and patch notes were also interesting to view to see how the game transitioned from it's disastrous birth and turbulent early months, to the departure of Tanaka and his replacement with Yoshi at the helm and his gradual changes to the game, to the decision to pull the plug on 1.0 completely and the resulting lead up to ARR.I'm really upset that it's going away.

As I mentioned on another thread though, at least there is always the Internet Archive to still view it once SE finally turns out the lights for the old Lodestone on March 31st.
However, one possible oversight to shutting it down completely is the loss of important information for transferring a 1.0 character into ARR which is still relevant, as not all 1.0 players moved onto ARR immediately - even now from time to time a 1.0 player finally decides to return and inquire about how to access their 1.0 character etc, information for which is still listed on the old Lodestone and not the ARR one. So that valuable info would be lost (maybe relist that particular page on the new Lodestone instead?).
Ah well, it's SE's servers so I guess they've decided to do a bit of cleaning and decided the old Lodestone no longer warranted the server space it was taking up.![]()

They should have done that sooner.
Now we'll only see 1.0 nostalgia / whine again, not that we did have enough of it.
1.0 is over, it was the moment they closed the servers, some regret it, others appreciate it, let's leave it at that.
Sayonara Old Lodestone.

I actually saved a copy of my characters page and achievement history, the same for my wifes, and all the grand company/newspaper article information.
It's actually quite strange they're just eradicating history like that. But I suppose ingame lore wise, physical copies of that stuff would likely be lost by now. If not during the calamity, but over the course of 5 years.

It's not going away until March 31. You have time.
All that said...I gave up on 1.0 after about a month or so. What they expected us to do just to level up drove me nuts. (this was back when leves were the primary means of leveling)
Now...I've been with 2.0 since (re)launch.
Some may be nostalgic for it. I don't miss the endless wandering to scrape some EXP up. I don't miss the anti-poopsocking features. I don't miss feeling sluggish. And I don't miss the hoops I had to jump through just to RUN the game.

Actually, almost immediately after the notice they removed the login allowance. So I can't even log in to make that farewell notice! Well it's not like I was much of a blogger anyway...It's not going away until March 31. You have time.

As for 1.0, actually version 1.0 wasn't all that grand. Once Yoshida took over things really got into gear though and it was a rather playable game by the end. Though I can understand someone that would be turned off from it easily enough.

What I will miss the most are the animations that they removed with ARR (excluding the animations lockouts) and the community was overall better than now to a sense of unity. You could meet many friends just by joining a raptor party in boulder downs and play together later. Now that doesn't happen because of Duty Finder.
Duty Finder is a useful tool but also severe the union between players from same server since they just jump on DF to do anything and don't socialize much as before.
I will miss out the 8 man dungeons (still praying to them bring them back with the old AV/CC reworked or not or new ones that give challenge).
I will miss out the so called speed runs and open chests to get the extra chest and of course the RNG. I know everyone hates RNG and me too but getting things handed with 100% drop isn't challenge. We can't be proud of being like in my case one of monks with full DL in whole server in Ragnarok when there was like 5-6 bodies around only. Everyone can get them in a short time and nothing to be in awe but you would get a great sense of accomplishment when you got it. In my case I got mine with only 7 members and with me with 200 hp and other 2 DD nearly dead and went even to my loot like if was destiny. I will never forget this. That feeling we miss it in ARR. This option would make other viable way without lockouts and LS/FC could help each others and farm until bleed and see a drop but the gratification would be greater
Lets see what 3.0 will bring with new loot systems (if there is one) and make things more fun.
Eh... Lodestone and forums are going away?
