They wouldn't do this due to they would lose money, there would be no reason for server transfers and they would not go for it.

So much this. Just adding a supportive response because this game sorely needs cross-server interaction.
But interaction, I think is where it should end. The 'guesting' part in particular, I think is just a bad idea. The reasons OP gave are genuine, however that is not how it would work. You would end up having an insane amount of people scouring the PF for which server had an S rank up, and the flooding of people to that server's PF would easily crash the server. That type of activity in the PF would probably break that as well, or at the very least bog down the speed of it's updates significantly. Imagine trying to log in on patch day, except that type of resistance happening when you randomly check the PF? "Must be an S rank up somewhere". No thanks
Cross-server friendlist? Yes!
Being able to PF with your cluster for instanced things? Yes!!
Being able to transport to someone else's server for open-world content? Not so much for me.
But that's just my opinion![]()
You know, I would just be happy with the ability to quest share and see the status of my party member's quests. I like to level with friends and it's currently a complete headache because we never know what stage of the quest we're on and we're constantly having to drop party cause of all the stupid instanced quests.
If I wanted to play by myself I'd play one of the old console Final Fantasys...
Megaserver. Which Guild Wars 2 uses. They didn't at first because they were still working out design kinks (which they said at launch. basically "we want to have a unified server system like our previous game, but it's not ready yet so we'll be using a server system"). And remember this was something the development team wanted from the beginning and it STILL took them until long after launch to get it right.
Then we have ESO, which also uses a megaserver...and anyone whose played can tell you the instancing problems that game had and still has.
In short, our server system is another symptomatic problem of 1.0 being behind the times when it launched.

I agree with this, from what I know for it to work cross server they have to have the services on the same server, it is probably not too difficult to make a cross server friend list/party/PF as those 2 could interact using lodestone/df servers while having someone transport to another server probably will be quite difficult and have other negative side effectsSo much this. Rift also has cross server chat/play, you can actually be teleported to a friends server very easily to participate in world events or do dungeons/raids together. All you have to do to chat cross server is add @servername or something along those lines to your whisper.
At initial release and up until the first expansion this was not possible but Rift also offered free server transfers (one per char per 30 days) fairly early into the games lifetime.
That said, Rift is now free to play and sucks (my opinion) but it's still an example of a non-megaserver mmo that introduced features like this. Their free to play conversion was an odd one because when they decided to go f2p they still had good sub numbers (close to 1 million) and they claimed for about 2 years they would never go f2p before laying off their head dev and around 50% of the dev team and turning the game into some pay to win crap (can't buy best gear but can buy 2nd best).

baby steps at a time ppl,
Lets start with
- being able to send tells during instances
- being able to open up sub topics under the social section.
I.e free company menu, friends list
- being able to qeue in df with chocobo out cuz
I think cuz choco counts as 2
Ppl when reserving instances but isn't one due to it being a pet etc.
I'd love an option to only be grouped with people from my own server at times. Could call it the " can I make friends mode"? This game is so anti-social it hurts...
+ for the love of godamn Christ, add an option at the end of a dungeon for "vote rerun dungeon". If every1 ticks yes? great u guys can have fun againNo? well just leave the instance as normal, no harm done. This would help low lvl dps incredibly if they met people happy to run again.

Guild Wars 2 man.... that was just too awesome. A shame how archaic XIV is with some of their systems.
