Our dps was fine, the issue was the other 3 members were preformed and the healer was directing the dps to attack emp even when guard was up because i was the only one attacking guard until the 3rd try.

Ah yes, the old "we're a premade group so we're right and you're wrong no matter what" situation. It doesn't happen often, but it can be crippling when it does.

Anyway, this does sound like an exceptional case. I don't think I've ever actually seen the boss succeed in getting the needles attack off. Then again, I tend to go crazy with Stone II when that Guardia shows its face. I have a feeling this won't happen to you again for a while, if ever. Most groups have the sense to listen to reasonable advice in the event of a dungeon boss wipe.

I'm surprised there wasn't a mage LB put there for when the guardia pops out. It instantly kills the adds and allows you to burn her down without problems. Hell, even a melee LB will 1-shot the Guardia.

party setup was pld(me), drg,brd, and whm. i did ask the drg to lb the guard but he lb'd the first giant cactus by mistake ._.
