Please, no more job restrictions for glamour.

So here is my story before I start.

I recently started playing ninja and needless to say that I love it. Good thing since our static already got a monk. Despite being interested in both classes, I chose ninja to not hinder on our progress which is fine too considering both classes are interesting. But then the World of Darkness info was revealed and I came upon some of the armor designs who look awesome by the way... Truly a lot of good ideas went into those armors and for that, I praise the design team!

But my heart was broken soon after as I was informed that the dev team is thinking about designing armors exclusively for each jobs. While not a bad idea per se and even encouraged, it creates a lot of needless restriction for our artistic minds when it comes to glamour. For example, I wanted my ninja, a class that I identify myself in, to wear sashes and baggy pants like the monk gear announced in the live letter to have some sort of Arabic look (to match my kirpan daggers) instead of a typically Japanese ninja look but due to class restrictions, a character who fights in close quarter combat just like monk can't wear the same outfit because it ''doesn't fit the vision of the job''. Another example is a friend who wants his character to look like a scientist on his black mage but is yet again restricted by the glamour system. Apparently, a wizard coat and a lab coat is not the same thing...

Anyway... All that to say that I would like, as a player, to see an improved glamour system that still limits the classes of armors (a bit like a la DnD with heavy, medium and light armor) but don't limit armors exclusively to jobs which greatly limits our creative options. Not many games has done so for a reason and the reason is rather simple. Even if we are the same job as other people, we don't want to all have the same outfit even if it's our ''job outfit''. The game's armor choice is already poor... Please don't make it worst by locking everything about the glamour system behind prerequisites.

Our goal as players is not to make the most ridiculous/controversial outfit there is for our character (at least for the majority). Our goal is to design our character to our liking, to stand out as a unique character and not copy/paste a character design of a certain job.

TL;DR: Please SE... It might be too late of 2.5 but please... Alter the glamour system so that someday, I can be a Arabic ninja and my friend can be a wizard scientist.

For those new to this thread. I highly suggest you look at the very good posts written by other players. This subject seems to take some magnitude with the observations of many.

The jp forums has a section for glamour requests and restriction removal (I think)

Wonder when or if they'll give us the same sub forum :/

Although a good idea to give the option to fans to alter the glamour system... The work seems way too substantial to go with one request/item at a time! D:

I agree. I've never played an mmo with a "skin restriction" like this. I can see the logic behind the restrictions from a developer standpoint, but from a gamer standpoint that logic falls apart when you start playing the game.

Some things look good on paper, and then some things only look good on paper. This is one of those things in my opinion.

I wouldn't be a fan of the mind games in pvp a restriction-free glamour system would create, but it would be a small price to pay imo. It's not like someone would say, "I lost the match because they were all wearing leopard skin bikinis! Bikinis are OP WTF!!?"

    I agree with you.

From a single player game standpoint, having class armors/outfits is fine since the characters are borrowed by the player for the sake of storytelling. The characters are not ours hence why we don't really care about what they wear (For example: Bravely Default). But this is a MMO though and the character is a direct representation of what we are or like to see. Same goes with the class! I like a speedy class with daggers but I do not like the appearance of the Japanese ninja. Sadly though, I am forced into that style because of how the game is designed which is a flaw...

I think the devs either think too much of a single player game for FF14 or do not trust their player base with the message the game and our character send to new players. Rather disappointing to be honest.

I remember the devs said the restriction was set to no "confuse players". Like a white mage wearing paladin gear for example.

I agree. Glamour restrictions need to be reevaluated. Their claim of "We don't want players to get confused" is quite ridiculous.

I'd still rather job/class specific gear to be just that, restricted to those jobs.

Though the restrictions should be consistent across the board; DoW can't glamour DoM equipment, especially when DoW can glamour into DoM (and tanks having the most freedom). Either that, or lift the restriction that prevents DoM from glamouring into DoW.

Or introduce more of those craftable versions that can be used by any class, such as the taffeta or light-steel series.

The whole " we dont want to confuse players" thing is a pretty weak reasoning, but I'm floating more on the (cant find the right word) willing suspension of belief in regards to how your character look in non-seasonal/event items.

I can certainly see restrictions when it comes to Job-Specific Artifact Armor, but other than that, they have, even recently, put items into the game that contradicts that restriction. 80% of casting gear can be equipped by a Melee Fighter or Tank, and 99% of Melee Fighter gear can be equipped by Tanks. Especially with the gear from All Saint's Wake, there could be a large number of tanks and Melee DPS running around, say... Carteneau dressed as Black Mages.

And even though I am a Tank, I would still love to see more variety in glamour selection.
