New Race Announced! The Au Ra

A company with over triple the resources working with a relatively recent engine by MMO standards damn well better be making a game that looks at least three times as good.

Still doesn't explain why people are shoving technical limitations down our throats when we're simply saying that we found the Au Ra boring, bland, lazy, and disappointing in terms of visual design, not polycount or graphical quality.

Have you seen FFXIV's graphics compared to GW2? Even the UI in FFXIV is better. The problem they're running into is memory. From the pictures you showed of GW2 leaf person, do they have different armor or is it just weapons? Every MMO i've ever seen has craptastic graphics compared to FFXIV, and it remains why I can't play WoW, their character models look like crap. (The world's colorful and pretty graphic-wise though.)

That's a wonderful opinion. I'm sure many people would agree that this animu style game made in recent times looks prettier than an older game using a realistic style that looked good at a time but (like most any game with a realistic style) doesn't age well. I personally think most New MMOs that come out these days that realize "realistic" is the easiest route to making your game look dated normally look awesome. FF arr, Wildstar, That Korean one, EQN all look awesome!

But I find it funny how you all say this game looks sooo much better ... yet GW2 can make these textures and patterns look awesome on human models, give people body tattoos, have fur on toons and make them work yet that's too much for FF ARR. And it's not just GW2, Wildstar does it to along with many other mmos.

It's common place. Yet some how FF ARR has ... 6 human races because they want everything to be animu pretty and bland I guess.

The reason people are so defensive is, we, the actual fans of this game, who had paid for the live streams....!

I don't know about the others, but i'm not defending SE, i'm very critic with them, and i said you were right, textures could be done in time, depends on their manpower, but if done is must be done well.

About the Sylvari, there are 2 big differences, first they had more time

The Sylvari were redone very LATE in the making of the game actually. Like I pointed out in my post, there was already released stuff showing them before the redo along with playable demos. It was actually really be news when they revealed the redesigned Sylvari soooo IDK if "time" is an excuse as to why A-N can make a race of plaint people yet SE has to settle for humans with horny bits tossed on..

yes I read them. that still does not mean they are her descendants. they never once mention that she even had offspring.
only that she 'lay with a dragon'. where is it implied? cause I think you are reading into something that simply isn't there. I saw no implication at all that the Au'Ra were even remotely tied to the Ishgard/Shiva story.

oh wait I read your post wrong. it's pure speculation on the part of the players even still. the devs have givin us nothing. maybe they will give us something in patch 2.5 so we have some idea where they are actually going with this rather than speculation.

as I said in my previus post I wouldn't mind this speculation to be true. but we don't even know they are part dragon. they could be part some other race SE has yet to reveal to us. afterall more than just dragons have horns and scales. some lizards have horns and scales and while the story might not be as cool it would make as much sense

You are correct in saying that is speculation on the part of the players.

But the speculation has a basis in lore, as fleeting as that basis is.
Personally, I made this connection before i read what others were saying about it, and i imagine a great deal of people who read the dialogues came to that conclusion before seeing the forum debates too.

Its not like I would be upset if they turned out to not be Shivas descendants, Its just that from the information given to us in the 2.4 Storyline, combined with the appearance of the Au Ra, its a pretty strong contender for the truth. Only the Devs will know, and i have good(read:bad lol) feeling that they won't tell us directly, but rather let 2.5s story tell us all we need to know.

Didn't read all 55 pages of this thread.

Just wanted to say I find those pretty boring, as someone said, they look like Elezen people with added horns (which looks like they got glued on their heads for the males) and some weird scales at some body parts. And a half decent looking tail.

I will never play Elezen and I know there are even more Roegadyn players than Elezen lol. I wonder how people can find the Au Ra so hot when they just seem to be the same exact model as Elezen with added cosmetics.
