PSN is down

This isn't just limited to ffxiv but to psn in general. If psn does go down you cannot play ANY multiplayer game that requires psn.
Yes I understand that buying a console, or a pc for a single game is not worth it.
But concider this. What can you do asides from play ffxiv on pc? What can do you if you cannot play any game on ps3/4 without psn?
Playing on console has a lot more to lose than on pc.

playing on console isnt as bad as you're trying to make it seem. i can do plenty on my console with out psn. i just can not play ARR. i have ARR on my pc but i much prefer to enjoy it on my console. all i really use my pc for is ummm.... these forums once in a while i guess

This wouldn't even be a issue if the game was allowed direct access to the servers rather than relying on psn

A few examples of what you can do on pc.
Chat on teamspeak, watch youtube, read manga, post on the forums, watch anime, check out the news *if you're into that*, draw something on photoshop, watch twitch, go on netflix. - All on that one device.
While you can do some of these on console, it's just far easier with a keyboard and a mouse to do those activities.

I remember being able to bypass PSN when I played on PS3, It bothers me SE can't have their client do the same with PS4.

We can do that with 1 device too. Just with a mouse. But honestly to each their own, I dislike people who try to say one is better than the other. We're all gamers and we should all be mad at the people who do this kind of stuff.

we can actually do much more than you are aware of. take teamspeak for example, something you named off specifically. while we dont have access to that specific program, we have other means of party chat. they say ignorance is bliss, but in this case i fail to see that. there is no need for your minor, yet still existent pc master race elitism here. you made your choice (pc), others have made theirs (console). why do you care so much?

I got to the point of boredom from this outage, that I decided to add PC licence to my account, so I can access events and do things like crafting and gathering when I need to. I was pretty much preparded for 15€ investment only for the licence, but to my suprise it also added 30 days to my active subscription. In the end paying like 5€ for just the licence (taking account the included game time) it was not that bad a deal. At least now I can still play FF when PSN goes ape***t, or if my PS4 is occupied by other human beings.

you implied with out psn we are screwed. that our consoles are worthless as we dont have access to whatever things you ignorantly believe we cant do. all i have stated is there is much we can do with our consoles. some of us just chose our platform to be a machine primarily focused on gaming. oh no, psn is down. can't verify the license for ARR. so what? i can still do many other things that a pc is capable of doing. i have access to social media, netflix, streaming, pretty much the whole internet. so some person(s) out there targetted sony and microsoft. pc gamers would be in the same boat if they decided to hit something like steam instead. platform does not matter, so i dont get why thats your case in this discussion

Actually, you can play this. Been there, done that. The launcher just doesn't work. It needs to be rebuilt to not rely on PSN for the 3 seconds the launcher is used. Other than that, no PSN required.

Technically ffxiv needn't psn. Psn dendency is artificial. I can understand this in a situation when i needn't reenter password each time and can pay for subsscription using psn. For other ps network games it's so, for this - no. Pity (
