As they add more stuff, older content is usually nerfed in linear progression games so new players can catch up faster. It's pretty standard.

I got my atma right when they came out (four of them, actually) and then have been slowly working on books since they came out. Just got my first animus two days ago (well, curtana -- I got the shield a while ago). Now I'm 6/75 alexandrite.
Anyway, I'm one data point who enjoys the long grindy relic quest even though chances are good I won't finish it by 3.0! I wish they would just add new steps on for 3.0 but I realize it's unlikely.
I wish it was more of a grind than it currently is.Hey guys,
Is it just me or are we losing player continuing there zodiac / relic quest each time a new step come out? I read forums and speak with a lot of people in game and I mean, is it good? Is it intended, is the relic too grindy? is the relic weapon should be THAT rare?
Well don't know if its good or bad really, thinking good for the rare weapon but bad since less and less people are doing it
Is it really any different from the grinds we have today? The Crystal Tower series, the Coil raids, etc. It's all about grinding the same pieces of content over and over again with new ones coming every patch to change the scenery, yet everyone wants to do em Sonic the Hedgehog style for what reason? To stop playing till next patch?
Not always I'm afraid. I complain about how boring it is not because of the time invested but to how there's just no real character growth involved in it past the first step. The first step with Hydra, Chimera and friends was perfectly staged. yes it was difficult, yes it took time, yes it took effort. The best part through the phase was I could feel myself improving as a player. The later phases to the relic quest felt more or less like stagnation and very much like degression instead of progression to me. Instead of feeling myself getting better with each phase and step and wanting to progress in it to be better. That was replaced with a feeling of how much of the past content I have done i can stomach through again before I throw in the towel.
The problem with the relics is this the upgraded coil weapons are better then them. I130.
So people are looking at it. Well I can sink a stupid amount of time to finish it or wait 2-3 weeks and get my 130 weapon.
On the flip side you have the. this grind is hell ppl, those that are more casual players that do not want to invest the time required to finish it.
Basically in my opinion as it been since 2.1 the rewards are not worth the time investment. So I do not do not actively work on one. Too much time and too much gil on the novus stage to finish one for a weapon that is subpar/equal compared to a T12 weapon which takes alot less time to get.
The relic grind was always intended to be a long-term goal. Its real problem is that it becomes an increasingly longer term goal with each release that adds another step to it. Its alternatives, on the other hand, remain at a relatively fixed difficulty level, though their strength goes up just as fast as the relics' do when new item levels are released. At this point, a fully upgraded relic is such a phenomenal undertaking that it really needs to be far and away the most powerful weapon in the game, but it still isn't.
I just don't consider the relic quest time well spent. It's waaaaaaaaaaay too grindy and I stopped on the books right after learning about what comes AFTER the books. No I'm not a gamer who wants to 'blaze through content', just because people think the grind for the relic is absolute dog shit doesn't mean they expect to blaze through everything. If it isn't FUN, I don't do it. That's all.
Game seems fine to me. Just because a few loud people shout how they are going to quit for X reason doesn't mean that the game has gone to pot. It just means loud people are being heard (which is nothing unusual). They tend to be ignored, too.
Only you, Mog, would even say that and actually be serious about it too. It's certainly enough of a grind for me (400ish more of those lights to go).
Yes its grindy and now expensive. Personally I'd like a 0 (zero) behind the light numbersand cut down from 2000 to 1000 but Say La Ve. I agree I don't know how relevant the relic will be if ya can just get a descent one from Primals. And from the rumors Crystal Tower 3 will drop weapons at the end. The Relic may just be something for the Hardcore crowd idk.
