New Race Announced! The Au Ra

I agree with Strejda. :3 This race is great as presented, but I'm still holding out for a race with more effeminate males. A friend of mine made his old P&P male Mithra character as a female because the whole point of the character is that he's effeminate and runs off pretending to be a female Mithra in order to escape the expectations placed on a male Mithra. And while you can make Male Miqo'te in FFXIV, they aren't effeminate in build.

I don't know if they'll add another new Race, or if they'll add a third "clan" to existing races, but I do hope to eventually have an effeminate male character.

Really, all you have to do is give a character the "youngest" face option, long hair and wide eyes.

Im really hoping the "young" option for Au'ra males look really good. The race is looking good so far, I just cant do muscularly men or most of the girls in the game:I

i enjoy how both the males and females look if you remove the scales or not, i think they have a very good mix of again and european characteristics, it feels like i could meet a few people who look like male au ra in france or germany while a few female au ra in either japan or china. the scales themselves seem to be fine, granted it isn't a full beast race but from what i have learned from my time in university and college, people seem to be underestimating how much work would be needed to fit playable beast race into this game, the Crystal engine isn't made for MMORPGs thats why this remake of the engine ( i think it was named the etheric shard engine, feel free to correct me) was a hybrid made using the crystal and new code, the one thing this game lost from 1.0 to 2.0 is the armour morphing coding, so if there was a beast race ALL ARMOURS would need a new model which would take a lot of time, time away from actually gameplay elements, perhaps in the future they could once they find a way around it, but until then i welcome our new scaily master race XD

I remember something Yoshi-P said along the lines that he didn't wanted to add Viera unless a LOT of the player base asked for it, so in the end they did what they wanted instead of trying to appeal to the people that voted on that poll but who can blame them? They wanted something "original" as their new race and they made it, it's a shame that it looks like a generic Korean MMO race in my opinion. I'm not hating on the new race, I might even make an alt in the future in order to see what custom options they have but I just simply don't find them to my liking that much.

Definitely looking into changing my Elezen into this. I know we're mainly just talking about what we see in the images for now, but I'm mainly looking forward to just seeing all the custimization options.

Question though: Anyone know how name changing works? I feel like keeping the name of a Norse goddess revered by elves when I'm a dragon wouldn't sit right with me.

I am, as others have said, a little disappointed with the females as presented. I was hoping that, as a draconian cross, they would look a little more formidable rather than cute. I chose female Highlander originally because I wanted a female that looked both pretty AND strong, and I was hoping the Au Ra would provide another option for that. Personally, I don't find cute as attractive as more mature physiques (i.e., someone that looks developed, like in their 20s or 30s, rather than teens).

That said, we have not yet seen character customization. They may have chosen to show a cute variation for the reveal. Here's hoping people in my camp and people who want a cute female may both be pleased. The only people who definitely won't be pleased I think are people who wanted a fully bestial race.

The only problem I have with the race is how patchy the scales look. They could have done more there to emphasize the bestial aspects without compromising the intended looks for the race. Bring the raised bits down to shallow them out some, expand them a touch, and move them more towards the outside/back of the character with transitory zones of small soft scales between the humanlike skin and the scaled features. It would do a lot to separate them from the Hyur baseline.

Less than 1/8 of legacy players who took the poll requested this type of race. It's actually 4th place in the poll, behind mammalian demi-beastmen, mixed heritage races (which have at least been confirmed possible in lore), and more clans for the existing races.

I suppose in some fictions dragons could be depicted as mammalian, but I don't think Final Fantasy, XIV in specific count. Especially when they're listed asreptilian in that very poll.

I mean the horns are somewhat bull or staglike on the light Au Ra, but that is mostly due to the nature of design. Draagons do not exist, tbus dragon horns do not exist, thus to give a dragon (or dragonlike) creature horns, influence must be drawn from something else.

Hopefully one of the au Ra tribe will have slitted eyes, fanged teeth and maybe forked tongue ala miqote.

Its months away till release and I hope the devs are looking at the feedback from fans and make minor adjustment to the au Ra as a result.

I'm REALLY not liking the scales on the neck (makes them look like burn victims) and how the males are scowling and hopefully we'll have horns pointing upwards
