Balmung feels like the Berlin Wall, actually.Just, please, Square. I'm begging you here, stop leaving Balmung under permanent lockdown, it's ridiculous. ESPECIALLY when you aren't even decent enough to tie the server limits to accounts instead of characters. God forbid any of them ever want to make an alt in the future...
Why don't you move to a less populated server?
So a person has 1 friend who wants to join and it makes more sense for that person to spend money for a server swap and any other friends that want to keep playing together must also spent money for a server swap? That's very wasteful. This is a poor response to this persons concerns.
I was able to make a character the other day just before maintenance began, so I would suggest trying right before or right after maintenance right now.
Creating a char on balmung is ez, just keep watching the lock window through the day.
Ragnarok is facing the same situation, you only have a small windows for create a character on it, meaning any friend that decide to join can't.... why this? because the server can't support more player...
ps: they really need to do something about the trouble of server.... the capacity must be enhanced and not wait to be reach the maximum capacity simply for save money...
If you look at xivsoul.com Balmung doesn't even have that large of a population. It's around 80k and midling compared to other servers. Where my server Brynhildr is over 100k and has no issues with having new characters be made. So it must be how many people are logged in...

This is my guess as well. Too bad we don't have the numbers for active subscriptions available. I'm curious about how the servers rate with that set of numbers rather than just how many characters were made on each server. If you look at xivsoul.com Balmung doesn't even have that large of a population. I would figure they want people to spread out more over the servers available rather than all try to pile into a few. :/ The formerly-known-as-ps4-servers are pretty empty for example.
Does anyone know if the character creation restrictions are looking at the number of accounts on the server, or at the number of characters? I know a lot of people on Balmung who have several alts, either for roleplaying or just for fun. If SE is looking at the number of characters on the server rather than the number of accounts, Balmung probably looks very, very full when the world itself doesn't feel overcrowded at all.
I'll also never understand why it prevents people from making a new alt on the server when they already have a character there, since you can only log on as one character at a time.
