White mage vs. Scholar I need opinions

I play both but have more playtime on my whm, I dont find one better than the other. They have different strenghts, sure, but all in all it balances out. Whm will have to monitor their mana more closely but they have much stronger aoe heals while scholars have to contend with more abilites on cooldown and pet management. If you like to heal i wouldnt worry about which is supposedly better but which playstyle you prefer. Either that or play both, for the most part you can equip the same gear so its not difficult to keep them at an even ilvl (although best in slot varies).

At item level 50-70 SCH and WHM were very balanced. They complemented each other well, and fights like Titan HM required both jobs working their strengths to pull the party through the fight.

As gear has progressed, SCH has become ridiculously more powerful. It was around item level 90 that I found the following things with scholar:

-Scholar's mana regen scales about 300-500% better than White Mage, depending how well you manage Aetherflow.
-When you reach ilevel 110ish, you can literally preemptively shield everyone all the time without worrying about mana issues.
-Even though white mage has better AoE healing, the difference between someone dying or not is usually in the scholar's hands. A well placed Adloquium or Succor before the damage is what determines the mortality in FFXIV, and not the large AoE heal coming afterwards.
-At earlier item levels, Scholar's throughput healing was very weak. As gear has increased and new content has released, Scholar has no lack of throughput on their healing anymore.

White Mage does however have the spell with the most theoretical DPS output. Unfortunately you'll only ever see this in action in ST trash pulls or darkhold exp farming groups.

From what I've heard, WHM is the reactive healer while SCH is the proactive healer. So, WHM can better cover those "oh shit!" moments, while SCH ideally should know what's coming in advance.

In my experience, Eos covers my ass when I derp up. >< Also, I love being able to dps (more than aero and stone at the lower levels) as well as heal. Keeps me busy. WHM has those big numbers though...

I main WHM, but played around with SCH a lot after I got it a Diamond weapon, and I have to say, it's definitely overall stronger in most aspect asides from rigorous AoE healing and regen.

There's not a whole lot of pluses to WHM though. Although...Holy is really pretty? ; ;

This is utterly wrong. 15 lustrates can potentially cover 10 times more mistakes than a single benediction.

It's more or less personal preference. When I heal I use White Mage. Why? Because I refuse to deal with a pet. I have a hard time dealing with myself as it is lol. We can debate the cosmic ins and outs of why this or that does 2% better over the course of no one really cares. In all seriousness play what you're happy and comfortable playing. You will actually play better that way.

Those complaining about whm's regen is way off. My static whm has 5.6k~is mp and his regen is insane. We never use ballad, even during heavy AoE phases (add phase in t12 comes to mind). You need to know when to throw out your ogcds to truly utilize your resting time.

As far as everything else, WHM competes with scholar pretty well. Yes scholar has massively superior dps, but in most fights you have the whm solo heal and Selene on buffs/embrace. Without Whm's superior AoE and great ST healing, that wouldn't be possible. They compliment each other very well, and there's no need for a buff or nerf to either.

WHM tends to get crapped on a lot (kind of like the whole pld vs war thing) but there is nothing wrong with it, IMO. I actually think the skill cap for WHM is higher than SCH.

As a WHM in endgame content, you must be proactive. If you are not, people will die. And when I've got regen ticking on someone for 650hp/tic, and I'm spamming DS'd Cure II on someone-- You want to tell me WHM doesn't have good single target healing? It's got great single target healing.

But it's not instant like Lustrate, and it doesn't ignore infirmity like Lustrate.You need to proactively proactivate your skills. You need to know when it's safe to stop and cast those spells before people's HP bars are critical. Often before they're below full.

SCH's a very neat job but don't let people tell you WHM is gimp. It's not. It's hard, but very powerful.

SCH is great at solo heals and solo DPS. We lack real AoE in both aspects, save for Bane. I see PF looking for WHM specifically for coil. Personally, when it comes to party wide damage, I struggle even with my fairy sometimes. Keep on WHMing if you like it, you are always going to be better at it than playing a class you don't like.

I prefer WHM and people say I'm a good one and that whm is harder than SCH. I play both, prefer WHM because I feel it's more satisfying to heal since I feel like SCH is more Dps than heals... So getting to the point of doing damage is a victory as a healer.
