Which to me is a perfectly damn reasonable response. "I like big tall men and petite women" is to me a reasonable statement. Trying to impose some sort of natural explanation in my mind is the crazy part.

You and Nalien have been kinda just talking past each other. Its entirely likely that the devs/designers used multiple sources to influence the new race. As with some of the races in Eorzea, sexual dimorphism does exist in the game world, and is a fairly common stylistic choice employed by the designers. Honestly, the difference between males and females in the race are the same as those in the Roe, just in height rather than girth. Even though FemRoes are really buff in comparison to the other female models, a male roe looks nearly 200-ish pounds heavier at a similar position on the height-slider. In this case they went went with a universally slender design, then put the male and female models at the opposite ends of the height-spectrum. That puts the females in the category of slender, and the males in the category of lanky.

Its not odd, or at least any odder than everything else in-game.

The argument, or rather, accusation, I am responding to is that it is sexist to have such a large physical difference between males and females. We can plainly see, in our real world, that there are many species, our own included, where males are larger, more muscular, and more physically intimidating then the females.

Why would it be sexist for an artist to then create a race of beings where the males are physically larger and more muscular than the females? Why should he conform to someone else's curious, and clearly unnatural, need to have females as large as/larger/identical to males? Someone who is not involved in the creation of this world or this race? And why is it sexist for him to portray a difference we so clearly see in our own world, in his own make believe world?

The idea that you can label someone's work as sexist when it mirrors what we plainly see in our real world, in nature, is what i take offence to. I am well aware of the difference between a fictional race of dragon people and actual lions.

They're playing it safe, but they are capable of wilder ideas, and we are willing to receive them, so long as they were smartly designed. They could go way crazier with playable races. They didn't here, and even though it looks good, the general direction of opinion here seems to be that something more off-beat was desired.

The general direction here is in no shape or form representative of what the general opinion of the playerbase is. The forums aren't, have never been and will never be.

Like this? I don't think the Au Ra sexual dimorphism is sexist, but guys come on... this is insane. It's like the opening paragraphs of a mass shooter's manifesto. Just replaced "ultra radical feminist" with a group of your choice: men, christians, lgbt people, a race, etc, and you pretty much have a peak inside the mind of a psychopath.

"ultra radical" something groups are usually a bunch of insane people trying to enforce their biased opinions and paranoiac delirium into other people's throats. Doesn't matter if they are feminists, christians, lgbt or anything else. Ultra radical groups are hurting their cause way more than they help it.

I for one really like the new race and I'll be an Au'Ra femme day one I like my cat, but I identify more character-wise with the new race. They are petite, exotic, and still not overdone yet very pretty <3 I'm not particularly digging the males, but I'm going to wait until I see them in game before I pass any judgement on them. They might end up growing on me. I'm just hoping for a free Fantasia with the expansion, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I love how the males look. Muscular and tough, yet not as beefy as male Roes or even quite as much as Highlanders. Great job!

However, I'm not happy with how the females look. I feel that the sexual dimorphism is too extreme. The females don't look "elegant and mysterious" to me, they look childlike and dainty. As someone else pointed out in this thread, the height difference is jarring.

Where are people getting that they are a combination of Elezen and Dravanian? I saw a FAN THEORY on reddit suggesting that they could be the descendants of Shiva, but nowhere in the stream did they say that. The only bit of lore I recall them releasing so far was that they would come from Ilsabard like Yugiri.

I'm switching to Au'Ra as soon as I could! I had to switch to miqote from elezen because I could no longer tolerate the disproporinate head and shoulders (head too small, shoulders too wide). Female Au'Ras look like how I wish elezen would be like. If they can be taller it would be awesome.
