Going to answer both threads here.

The appearance function in this game is refered to as the glamour system it is walled behind a quest available at level 50. From what I understand from others descriptions it is similar to the transmogrification system you are refering to.

As a lancer you are in the unique position of being the "tanky" dps, giving you availability to equip the lower grade tank gear. The answer to this is going to be contested by someone, but you can't really go wrong with any gear you can equip as lnc while leveling up as long as the main primary stat is strength(str). It is suggested given the option you use gear that is not intended for tanks though, ie gear not listed as equipable only by mrd/war/gld/pld/lnc/drg.

Primary stat wise for any class you do you want to solely focus on the one you have the most of natrally, in this case strength. There are exceptions to this when it comes to tank/healer jobs, but as dps its absolute so far.

As far as defence, as a lnc as long as you do your best to keep your equipment ilvl relevant to your current level it doesn't matter. Level appropriate solo fights do not hit hard enough one way or the other, and in group fights as lnc you should not be getting hit most of the time anyway (unless it is an undodgeable that is going to hit everyone)

Actually I consider the gear that has both tanks and lnc/drg to be the lnc/drg leveling gear. It even has some makings of the drg af look in it. And it tends to have a set available every so levels. You can use other DPS gear to slot in what's missing. But yeah stat wise all in str.

The glamour system works by using a glamour prism as a catalyst. You do not lose either the glamoured item or the glamour pieces of gear just the prism. And you can remove the glamours as well. Sadly you will need to hit level 50 before you can actually glamour(it's a level 50 quest).
