No, you just send a multiple choice kind of poll with fixed question and answer and also add attainable objectives for your company.
Tough I woudn't do it via e-mail since you could get spam filtered and miss a lot of customers.....I'd do it directly in game, log in, questionary pops up, finish it.

I still wouldn't want that. I'm sure SE may get a small idea of what players want from people that actually fill out the so called poll but most people will just delete it and continue on playing the game.

FFXI was their most profitable game after a decade of collecting subscriptions. Depending on how the expansion is received, the game will either crash or succeed. 500k is a good amount and is honestly all that is needed for a MMO, but I don't see how this game can have a high retention rate. FFXI hooked you in because you put a long investment in the game. Players had worked hard and long to get their gear and kept playing because of the progress they had made before. Heck, getting to max level was a feat in itself. With XIV, there is very little of that. Your gear is recycled every patch. Getting to max level takes a couple of days grinding with many people maxing 50 on all chars. The only investment players have in this game is gil and their relic (which is optional), crafting and assets that are bought with gil as well I assume (housing). Maybe minions as well if you are a collector. There is no "hook" to keep you engaged, besides the initial thrill of "new content".

I agree no hook. I just got my 2 jobs leveled fully and guess what all that coil gear you spent so much time on throw it away and start over. All those dungeons you ran for tomes, start over. You dont even get a chance to enjoy that new gear. But it does allow new players to catch up easy something you didn't get with FFXI. Rarely did you see a new player but rarely did people quit and if they did most came back soon. I have seen almost all the people I started with leave FFXIV but server population still seems high.

Perhaps a high turnover with a cash shop is what they want. A person can only buy one Sleipnir per account after all.

Regarding marriage system/items/quests solution:

Had a similar thought: Buy Untradable Marriage license from Mog Station, Use the item to unlock a Trial in Duty Finder that requires 2 people, the two go through the trial, and receive the untradable bracelets as a reward, continue with the already in place quest line to get married. And make the trial easy so that it doesn't require tactics to get through, like to go collecting something by each person.

This is false right here. Gear isn't outdated every patch but every other patch or 7-8 months. This gives you 7-8 months of using the same gear which is a long time for a MMO. There is always a catch up patch that makes gear easier to get. that does not raise the item level on gear between new coil patch. The draw of the game is you get to do new content harder challenges.
