While on this topic however I can't tell you how many times I get the new player notification and no one says anything, if your new say so some of us are willing to help if we know you are actually new and not an alt.

If I see the message, I'll just explain things anyway. Doesn't take but a few seconds, and they might pipe up in response as well.
