This is already done in the game for a few job races but on a very small scale (roe DRG's spear points up while hyur DRG's spear points down). Would love to see more unique stances per race AND gender.
Can I be honest about this as I can with you? That sounds.... optional.

Already exists - that's like saying you don't support emotes being different between races. Did you know? There's even attribute differences between races and clans.

They need to expand on the limited customization and give us the OPTION to pick a stance that fits our style.

Even though I liked the hyur male stance from 1.0, the current default Monk stance looks decent. The problem is, EVERYONE has that same exact stance. It's criminally overlooked and brings down the feeling of distinction.

I was pretty disappointed when they decided to generalize the stances for every race in 2.0.

You would think playing an mmo, that requires many long hours of playtime, with a paid subscription, and now a cash shop, would bring with it more depth when it comes to customizing your vision.

    We have some lazy devs.

    From 1.0 to 2.0:
-They reduce the size of butts to aunt jemima pancakes, because adjusting the butts to armor would mean work, and cutting corners is more important.
-They remove individual race stances and generalize it to ONE!; because recycling is the way of the future, so SE is doing their part by using the same single animation for everyone!

Stop being lazy and giving us lame excuses. Hire more people if it's too much work.

EDIT: And of course the poster RIGHT above me mentions it lol. Sorry for the repeated post.

It may have been mentioned, but they used to have this in 1.xx. I miss my lala run animation from 1.xx... I hate looking like a dopey disney cartoon character now >.<

Anyhow, it would be nice if they could put it back. I read how it's tied to ps3 limitations, so maybe they'll bring it back when they discontinue support for PS3. They said after next expansion or something like that at fanfest NA.

Why not? This is a MMORPG. RPG. Role Play. Character. Characterization. Character with no personality is no interesting character to begin with.

I completely support the OP. Ever since the game started, I've always wanted a differentiation between races while fighting. Why? Because each race is different, each race has different background stories, mannerisms, ways of living, ways of thought. As of right now, with similar fighting stances, all races and genders are bland and it seems like we are not very unique, there's no characterization, we are just all the same, no personality.

For example, a Roe would hold the weapon in such way that they portray strength, because that's what's the race about. A female Roe would hold it in a slightly feminine way, since they are female, but still portraying strength. They can't be the same as say, a female hyur, because female hyurs (midlanders at least) have a more delicate nature.

In FFXI, Elvaan girls held their weapons and shields in a very elegant, sophisticated way. Elvaan males did the same but in a masculine way. Reason being, that's what Elvaans' peronality was. They portrayed elegance, wealth and a little bit of arrogance. Actually, if you read the Archer quests carefully, the Elezen archer guy shows his arrogance towards hyurs (at least he did to me! that bastard :P).

See how female humes hold the sword differently from males? It would be really nice to have that. I don't like the way it is now, having same fighting stances as males. (I'm a girl, so yeah it's not big shock I'd want a more feminine stance XD)

It's all about giving each gender and race a personality and uniqueness. In my opinion the current standing stances don't make enough justice.

    I HATED THIS

    SO MUCH

but if they linked the animations to /cpose just like the idle stances are, I would be okay with that. It means you could have the new battle/idle animations toggled off if you prefer the cookie cutter variety.

I think Elvaan had the best looking weapon skill animations, despite how they held greatswords like they were waiting for someone to pitch a baseball at them.

On topic though, yes! To me, the fact that all races/sexes held weapons differently really made even the idle animations stand out. They say variety is the spice of life, and I am inclined to agree with this, because the different handling of each weapon always made me believe there were several disciplines throughout the game, and it was always fun to imagine that the Mithra had different traditions than the Elvaan. Then you bring in Tenzen, who is a hume but holds his weapon in his own unique way and shit really gets real! It may have just been something to look at, but it was definitely a meal for the eyes! Don't let your eyes go hungry, folks!
