The game certainly does lack alot an atmosphere... Lets hope it does get remedied in the future after all the serious stuff is out of the way. This video of Vana'diel makes Eorzea look like a stagnant, lifeless rock...

Wonderful video, thank you for sharing! A flood of memories just rushed over me while I watched it.
I think Eorzea has a lot of potential to live up to Vana'diel, so i'm hoping the team gets to that as well. The setting is already beautiful, but it does need a bit more life to it to truly immerse us in this world of Eorzea.
The small butterfly at the end is just one of those small things that just adds a whole lot to showing a living, breathing world.
Supposedly, they are going to redesign the areas in the future. To what extent is anyone's guess but when they do I hope they add such little touches.
Things like tiny insects flying around bushes that are too hard to see unless your camera is close enough, fish jumping out of water, birds flying through the air, etc.
Oh please oh please oh please do this, Square Enix.
One thing I've noticed in every MMO I've played (wish I had played XI...), the world feels so dead. You don't see NPCs truly talking or anything. Sure, the occasional NPC will talk in some, but that's it.
What I'd love to see was shown in that video and more: Animals chasing each other, farm animals eating on grass or leaves, NPCs talking, little insects or something flying/walking around. Things that you would see if this world was real. Maybe even a couple enemies fighting each other for territory/food. The little things that you really don't see in MMOs.
Rise Against - TorchesThe angels dance like feathers float, they're here to see and to be seen,
The clock strikes two, the music slows and each one slowly dons their wings,
Once outside they all pair off and hand in hand they leave
But I'm still waiting, yeah, and I'm still waiting
I posted a whole thread about it a while back. They said they will add more life to Eorzea after more pressing updates. Hopefully, they kept all the ideas written there by so many players, it was a gold mine!
So, yes, we should see more "life", "alive" environment, "breathing" world, etc. eventually.
LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
(Marvelous economics IQ test!)
I really hope they stick to their word on this. As we all know, what SE says isn't always what SE does. :/I posted a whole thread about it a while back. Great Vid !!
Thanks for sharing. The video couldn't have explained this issue better.
I completely agree. This is the biggest issue for most people, the environment is too dead, the areas are pretty boring and dull. They could be much more creative, have them much livelier. If this was done right, i think alot of the complaints about FFXIV wouldn't exist today because a beautiful world can make up for alot of the other downfalls of the game, atleast we'll be immersed by Eorzea.
Besides, whats an MMO without a stunning adventurous world? FFXI was a perfect example.. and with the resources and engine in use with FFXIV, im sure FFXIV has the potential to surpass. SE just needs to utilize it and set focus on this.
YES.Hoppípolla
Love Sigur Ros.
