No one asked for a cash shop specifically. They wanted the ability to buy stuff like fantasias and old event items with real money. People were practically BEGGING for Square to sell fantasias and the ability to change names and were willing to pay for it. Square just put everything under one roof.

After people whined about the rare dyes being "too hard" to obtain through ventures, Square threw em a bone they had to pay for. But this is not about silly dyes. People wanted certain things before the cash shop came about and now they got it. I haven't seen anyone complain about the fantasia and name changers having to be paid for.
