Other games have done this sort of thing before with mixed success. Usually it does help curtail spam a fair bit though. With a safe alternative to the spammers, people who were going to buy gil anyway will probably buy from the safe and legal venue. Even if only a few did (more than a few will) it would eat into gold-spammer profits enough that you'll see less.

Solution is SE becomes the RMT through making cash shop items tradeable, instantly stops most whining about the cash shop as well because everything in it can be bought in game.

Hell all those people who reckon the cash shop is a good thing because it means more money for SE should be happy with this. If items can be bought as gifts then more items will be sold, if items can be exchanged for gil it cuts into RMT profits, every cash item in the game was bought by someone at some point so no cash shop money is lost but everyone can theoretically get them and finally no amount of gil can get you proper end game gear so it doesn't really qualify as p2w.
