As long as there is nothing in the shop that gives someone an advantage over other people I don't see the problem.

Ok maybe the fact that when I get drunk I seem to think its a good idea to buy a new pet is a bit of a problem... But that's my fault for getting drunk.

this part is the trouble.... definite me advantage? for each person it will varie... because of this more and more step in the wrong sense are taken by SE, because until player can prove that it an advantage, they can virtually add anything they want in the cash shop.
just a reminder we are in a video game... everything is virtual and by this it can be take as...everything is... optional!

It definitely was a pull factor for me. I found it awesome that not only is it a FF game, but I didn't have to pay unknown amounts of money to be able to actually play it - monthly subs are great because they can be calculated with.

As for the cash shop, I think it's too new to determine its effectiveness in making the game better. But from a social point of view, it just widens the gap between certain groups of players, making more ground for toxicity, and that definitely isn't good. Paying for server transfers (or the like, eg name changes) - that's one thing I can understand. Even if it's technically a few clicks or so, it's still work on the databases, it changes the server loads, and let's be honest if it was free and everyone was jumping servers every month, it'd just be too big of a chaos. Fantasia...maybe. Kinda blurs the line for me, like, I do believe we could get one such option for free every year. But oh well. But any kind of cash shop, that is just not a good thing. Not with this mindset. And no, others doing it does not make it right. It's sort of a break of trust again, something they should be extremely cautious with, especially in this game, knowing its history. I just don't agree with the principles of it.

For now, I'll just sit and wait. It hasn't exactly ruined anything too much (more than enough content I'm blocked from that aren't cash shop anyway, so from that point of view, it's just one more, not really a difference) so far, but they are treading on very thin ice. I can see a point where my heart will break at the fact of having to quit playing if they take it too far.

I think you failed to understand that post. Advantage as in giving the best possible raid gear which will make your character quite OP. Nothing in the cash shop does such a thing. Yet people are overreacting to the cash shop..which in all honesty is no surprise to me on this forum. People overreact to almost everything here.
