I'm guessing they didn't really think anything through, the whole housing system as is is a complete mess. As for binding to which character on super rare things they could make it bind to the one that placed it or the owner of the room or house. Honestly you can't mail or trade the stuff once it's placed anyway.

Here's the thing though, when you put it back on your inventory, it's not bound to you. Someone dropped a knight desk eariler (the stone vigil one) into our housing, and I was able to move it into my inventory to be placed elsewhere. That's all the "binding" on furnishing really does. When it says "cannot be removeed once placed", it means that it cannot be put back into your inventory, but it can be moved elsewhere within the estate/room.

It's because they're all ugly, so when you remove it, it completely destroys the item so that you don't accidentally use it again.

This is really got me the other day. Because of one specific item: The Armoire. Because the armoire is a dyeable item. DYEABLE, as in to dye housing items you have to put it IN your inventory to apply the dye, and you cannot preview it, so to see how it looks you'd have to place it. And then you're stuck with it, because picking it up again would destroy it. What sane person would let this system go into the game as is? I just fail to see the logic! ._.

For the very reason that if someone had the ability to remove the item from your house they could take off with it and leave your FC or put it in their personal house. The super rare items make them rethink their plan because why bother pulling it up if it's going to go poof.

Actually the item does not have to be in your inventory to dye it. You right click it and get the paint option.

Edit: If on PS3/4 hit the square button while the furnishing is selected.
