The game designers have been careful to regulate the supply of currency in the game. Currency does not inflate anywhere near the rate gear does. A million Gil is a lot of money now and it still will be in a few months. At the end of the day, as they say in business, "cash is king."
Some crafters have made a decent amount of gil from 4*, but the majority (especially those just getting into it) will be facing huges loses, considering how much it costs to get Supra/meld offhands/books etc.
