    its because you're using an optimus notebook, the hook on the nvidia GPU is lost during the screen switch.

    Yes, this could indeed be the reason. But what I don't understand then is why the blackscreen doesn't happen each time I switch? 9/10 times I can switch back and forth without any problems and the 10th time I get the blackscreen...
    Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening like changing some graphic card settings on my laptop?

    Else I'll definitely try to run my game in borderless window mode to see if that helps.
