    So did 1.18 rule or suck?

    I haven't really been able to try out all of the new stuff, but I logged on a couple of times to see what was it like and I was pleasantly surprised on the changes.
    However yesterday I read here that the jp forum is full of people hating on the patch, and this morning yoshi goes and post something that seemed a lot like an apology for the update.

    I saw a few people on the english forums diss this patch but I never quite see them raise an actual complaint. So I was wondering what are the issues people are having with this patch.

    If they rebalance the MP issue in a minor patch soon, it'll be rules

    Perfectly acceptable if you realize it's basically part 1 of a larger patch.

    I am not a fan of how clunky the auto attack is. Lots of games make the flow of combat very fluid, FFXIV is not one of them. I didnt think the dungeon was very dynamic either but then again I am mainly a crafter so I have only been in there like 3 times so no big deal to me. I think a lot of the people on the US forums seem to love the patch tho. So I guess this patch was a win by most posters standards.

    I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!

    Amazing patch. The QQ'ing over it should more or less be ignored. Two weeks ago this was an "MMO" that could be played while AFK with absolutely nothing to do in it but grind. Now it's got a battle mechanic that requires the player to play and it has content that gives him/her a reason to. The dungeon was great and Batraal really gave us a taste of how cool future HNM's can look.

    Next gen Tiamat? Can't wait!

    We all said in the beginning that FFXIV had unlimited potential but I think somewhere in the last ten months we had lost sight of that because of how boring standing in town became. Now we see that potential starting to be fulfilled.
    This game is on the right track now and I suspect in a year from now it'll be something really incredible.

    RULES. I'm actually playing and so is a lot of other people.

    Combat isn't a zerg fest anymore. There is actual MP management.

    Can't wait for more to come!

    They should not, just learn how to manage mp, everything should not be easy. The mages were hardly nerfed in the mp department, on cure yet, nothing else.

    Auto-attacking is a bit clunky, but functional and overall the changes are for the better. However, the glaring complaint many people have is the massive increase in MP cost for the Cure and Sacrifice spells. Not just slightly higher, mind you, but more than 3 times their original cost! Cure II now costs 75mp, Cure III costs 135mp and so on.

    If this were FFXI, it'd be fine because the mechanics were designed for party play but as an apparently solo-friendly game, FFXIV suffers for it. I now have to do all leves on 1-star rating because I barely have the MP to survive my first few encounters. Low HP combined with now comparatively low MP makes for a very difficult combat, and against undead its double trouble as I don't have siphon MP to fall back onto.

    Still, those are just my 2 cents. Overall, I do think the game is leaning towards a far more strategy-oriented approach to combat, which is excellent. I just wish these MP changes had come later once the system is ready for them.
