If we are being completely honest here, that's not an overreaction at all. Go look at what other MMOs have done with their "will only ever be vanity WINK WINK" cash shops. One sells special cash shop only quests, and their sub fee is higher than FF14's.

hah yeah, if it was free everyone would be marrying random people off the street in ul'duh just to get the mount. kind of removes the point.
Leaving the forums stating he has no idea why someone is buying something of their own volition is happening like it's completely alien to them is not an overreaction? That's absolutely new to me...
And I played those other MMOs that have Vanity Cash Shops(TERA, Vindictus, Aion) and out of those 3, ONLY ONE has turned into that(Aion) and a HUGE chunk of players doesn't support that in the least.
I personally find it ugly. It's the same turkey like the friend recruit mount just with cream topping and flowers. The thing is SE will keep adding things in their shop that you CAN'T take in game. They will keep adding more and more. When a cash shop comes to a game comes to stay forever and get updates all the time. Unless people stop playing and paying and SE watches their numbers fall once again then and only then they will take action. Not sure if this is wide-spread knowledge, but this appears to be the mount in question, if anyone wanted to see what it was that you won't be able to get.
Unless they've already released images of it, I figure we may as well kill the hype now. That's it. That's the bird.
This is such a bad idea. "Not pay to win"... No, it's a subscription based MMO with an increasing amount of content that requires additional payment for it to feel more worthwhile. I hope this isn't going to set precedent for other content in future patches, by splitting up content for customers... oh wait (-__________-)".Well they announced 2 plans for eternal bond in the live letter. Standard plan is free. Gold plan costs money but gets you mount+minion and more dress options.
So will you get a gold plan wedding knowing it costs money? I wonder if both people have to pay money. But more details with the patch notes.
I think we can all agree that $€ is triple-dipping by now:
First, you will have to pay for both the game and expansions.
Second, you will have to pay a monthly subscription.
Third, there is a cash shop, in which you will have to pay...
...If you want the full (vanity counts as content, especially when this game relies so much on the Pretty Factor to get a leg up on WoW and others) experience.
And apparently even when triple-dipping, they cannot afford a larger team (to make proper bare feet, balanced anatomy and so on), better servers (housing, storage in housing, you get the idea), better ISP/server location (so that it wont be faux-quad-dipping as their customers have to use VPNs, which also costs money) and whatever else people have been asking for for quite a while.
I remember feeling disappointment when extra retainers (storage) became a sub-fee thing. Now I'm kinda resigned and annoyed with it all. Especially as they rely so much on Cash Shop Items to create hype.
Just to piss off the whiners... My SO and I are going with the Platinum plan if it isn't too expensive (if it is we'll settle on Gold) because WE WANT TO. This will be fun, something different, and frankly not something anyone else has a say in.
People complain about SE nickel and diming us... if you want to see that, go play DCUO. SE charges us the sub fee, and that's all we have to pay to enjoy the game. Compared to what she and I spent when we played DCUO just to stay current with gear, this will be nothing. A one time fee for a fun and enjoyable event is not a thing she or I have a problem with.
It isn't because you have a disease called compulsive purchase that it's a good thing.

Against it too. We're part of a subscription fee MMO. That means everyone pays out each month to sustain the game and pay for new content. You may think this doesn't affect you since it's vanity, but I can assure you that's a very flawed path of reasoning. Eventually it will.
"Non-essential content" is a loose term. If you want to be particularly pedantic, mounts aren't essential. We can run everywhere. Wait until they start to offer v3 mounts in the cash shop with +20% movement speed. How dare SE give people that pay an advantage. Time to complain? By your own admission, it's "non-essential" that you get somewhere 20% faster. See the problem? "No pay to win!" Yoshida said, and what would anyone be winning getting somewhere just that little bit quicker. Interpretation is key.
It always starts this way and quickly grows out of control. Look at Electronic Arts right now; scourge of the games industry and yet, it all began the same way. It's very difficult to be altruistic when so much money is flooding in and the only opposition is a conveniently muted sense of morality.
I feel a measure of confidence would be restored if they gave us some kind of breakdown as to what the money is actually spent on. From what I've seen, nothing much? Certainly not ridding the game of RMT or fixing some of the gameplay issues present since launch. Sorry guys, but I'm giving my vote of no-confidence here.
