I thought the exact same thing when I finished reading it. I think this was just a smoke screen for two possible reasons:I feel like he said nothing but acknowledge the existence of perceived-issues (and only a handful) without even explaining which side of the fence he stands.
This is an awful letter. Awful. He might as well have said nothing, which incidentally is all he did say. Nothing worth a darn.
1. The negative feedback to some of the things they did in 1.18 has made them make changes to things that would be introduced in 1.19 as they realized players will not like them, and now he dare not say them as they will just bring even more complaints.
2. He just wanted to buy time because he didn't felt like going into detail about 1.19 this week.
Edit: The one thing I can take from the letter is that he admitted they made mistakes and went too overboard with some changes so all those fanatics barking at anyone who didn't agree 1.18 was the best thing ever and the exact vision of the producers can finally shut up. Players that had some issues with the patch were right.

I can see this being the case. It's even possible to skip the first set of lights maybe it should be lit up last before the teleport to the second floor.

when you do use those lights you get a message about the chocobo stables being unlocked, which I assume is the room that opens up when you activate that circle, haven't found anything in there yet but maybe there is a chance for a rare spawn.

I'm really looking forward to the game's development! I'm all for new content and learn new things about the game!http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...530#post259530
I really like Yoshi-p responds so quickly at all concerns and stuff. Adding some news and tips here and there.
Can't wait, can't wait!

I would quote from a past response but there are many of you commenting on his statement regarding going too far with balancing. Would someone mind giving me a few examples of what this might be referring to?

I think the main point of the letter was to let everyone know that he didn't believe the patch was the end all solution to every problem in the game and they are still hard at work making the game better. That being said 1.18 was an awesome start, the game is challenging now, this patch will effectively separate the wheat from the chaff. Those complaining that he didn't say anything... say what you really mean. "I'm mad because the letter didn't say we were going back to easy mode and I can't compete anymore now that it takes some skill.

Yoshi-P I like to personally thank you for the content you added with patch 1.18. This game is starting to feel more like XI than it ever did. Things are starting to get more challenging and you have to actually put some thought and strategy into fighting a mob. There are still some rough edges but I'm sure you guys will smooth things out over time. Keep up the good work and don't listen to the trolls.

Overall 1.18 was good imo, I think the main problem is the 10% death penalty being the 'overboard' part and didn't plan/look carefully on the mob placements or modifying gatherer leve quests since I read it's close to impossible to complete now.
Other than that I have no problems with 1.18; hopefully summer event next week 1.18a week after and if lucky 1.19 by 8/29-9/2...and 1.20 by 9/30
