what is the best retainer ilvl

So, people are saying that i80 is still enough to get the dyes despite the rare items message not appearing until i90. Does anyone know if having your retainer at i90+ lessens your chance to get the dyes? I obtained a bunch before the patch, and very few after the patch. One retainer was i80 before the patch, and is now i93. She brought back ~16 dyes before the patch and 2 since. I've done about the same number of ventures before and after.

Just as a disclaimer, I have no idea. What I say is speculation


However your theory does have merit, because essentially you would be knocking out the i90+ items out of your possible pool of items received. They may just fill those extra slots with more chances at fish/furniture though.

While I can understand people wanting specific dyes, I'm not sure it's worth decreasing your retainer ilvl just to try it. My retainer is i106 and since 2.4 I have gotten a waterproof cotton, 2 allagan wootz ore, 1 allagan leather and multiple stacks of dyes of all colors.

My suggestion would be to raise your retainer ilvl, not lower it. It makes more sense to me that the amount of times you will get crap will decrease as your retainer ilvl grows.

Yeah, that's why I was wondering if I should farm ST to get my retainer to i100, instead of the i90 he is sitting at now.

I might do it anyway, there's no loot restrictions anymore, so I'll just go BLM and take all the caster loot I can get.

I really wish they would get rid of the fish and housing items. That is pretty much all I get.

My retainer saw how much I didn't like getting fish, then upped her game up a bit and just brought me lures....then she brings me a kingly whisker, a seating module, and a Gyshal Ring. I don't understand.

Tonight's venture is the first i80+(not90 though) so I'll see what I get and report back.

As I think I mentioned in my first post, I had gotten a ton of dyes before 2.4 with my retainers being a bit higher than i80, yet under i90.

After 2.4, from my personal experience of sending my 2 retainers that I had above i80 out on Quick Ventures (how I got all my dyes) I got nothing, ever. I also did not receive the message about rare items.

The one retainer I have now above i90 receives the rare item message, and I've received dyes twice now from sending them out on Quick Ventures (actually had received new dyes shortly after I made my previous post, so now I've gotten dyes twice).

Still though, the % chance does seem to be a bit lower than before 2.4, imo. I send my retainer out for Quick Ventures every hour while I am playing.

It could also be that before 2.4 I was able to send 2 retainers out and basically increased my chances of obtaining dyes.. and I did get quite a few.

Still working on getting my second retainer i90+ but they are a Lancer.. and I have had 0 luck seeing or getting Lnc/Drg drops from ST to increase their ilevel. Yet Nin/Mnk gear drops out the wazzoo.

I have 4 retainers in total, but only one i90+ atm, one is still i80+, one I made the mistake of making a Miner and I am not going to be dolling out gil to pimp out my retainer's gear.. no ty. The fourth is still leveling up to level 50, but I should be able to have them be somewhere around i80 or higher once they do hit 50.

K so that venture and all after have been underwhelming. HQ sea cucumber, Ahriman Chronometer...doors etc. Pushing to get up to i90 now. I have also noticed no rare item message @ i84.

i now have ilvl88 on my retainer ive gotten loads of useless fish and lots of housing items and armor i cant use or sell to make profit from other then that ive got back from my retainer 4 jet black, 2 pure white and 2 Silver dyes

I think i90 gets them into coil and they roll better than I would. I see firends saythey get allagan mats more than anything. Although she did bring me that module at i38 and a mogblade at i42 and the whisker shortly after.
