Damn. Watching it again now. As much as I like Keanu Reeves, the guy really has trouble shaking the "surfer dude" personality. ><I see your Christian Bale and raise you The One:

As for my speculation I personally prefer if it were the Gun Mage, simply because I really really want me some Blue Magic.
And well, technically my "Cleric" is a gun mage for all intents and purposes. No Blue Magic though.

I would much rather have the Gun Mage in all it's pride and glory.

Seriously, what cool outfits.
Actually the Gunner outfits aren't half bad either

But really, I would much rather have the Gun Mage (Blue Mage) than a sub par healer. Plus, the Gun Mage (Blue Mage) has precedence. A Gun Cleric does not have precedence. Closest to a Gun Cleric that we have ever gotten is the Chemist in the Tactics series.

Just curious, what exactly it is you like about the Gun Mage?I would much rather have the Gun Mage in all it's pride and glory

The copying of monster spells?
The monster specific damage? (Unlikely in FFXIV given that we don't even have elemental specific damage.)
I suggested the "Gun Cleric" half-jokingly. I thought would be cool to have calculation-based Gun-Kata.
And I wouldn't worry too much about "precedence". FF classes are more or less invented on the fly. Gun Mage is pretty much FFX-2 exclusive.

I almost have a feeling that the gun won't even be the main weapon of the class and instead it'll be a offhand weapon that's used for abilities like the Paladin's shield. With the mainhand being the now lost single dagger weapons/club. When you take away the centrality of the gun as the core weapon, it opens up a lot more options as to what the job may be
Perhaps it is a Gunblade class... that'd be very interesting![]()

I think its going to be a dps, BECAUSE everyone now expects it to be a healer since it's "not what we're expecting." I would LOVE Gun Mage. Only because every Live Letter I ask about Blue Mage and as Blu is implemented differently in each incarnation, its totally possible!
"Welcome to the ranks of the blue mages. However, at this moment you are but an empty vessel--a base creature, weaker than the most ordinary mortal. A blue mage must wrest her strength and vitality from her enemies. Show me your hunger for unrivaled power! This is the only guidance I shall give you."
~ Final Fantasy XI Treasures of Aht Urhgan

Considering the nature of where the Musketeer's Guild is located, it seems logical that the job version of it would be Corsair. I mean, pirates and all, right? A lot of speculations are being tossed left and right about the gunclass being a potential healer - Chemist from FFT as source, I suppose. Problems with Chemist, however, it's would either require resources to actually heal: Pitching potions. Or they are somehow magically unrestricted and can "draw aether out of the air and stuck it in a jar"(?) Otherwise they'd have to headshot you and you suddenly received a burst of healing, odd.
There's a more basic choice for Square-Enix to pick a healer, though: Red Mage.
edit:
In case the "hint" yoshi gave with his 007 T-shirt: Pirating movies. For we be pirates!
Yar dar fiddle lee dee being a pirate is alright with me
The short answer is 'Yes.' Yoshida has moved classes away from requiring consumables as a core to performing their role in the past. Archers/Bards needed arrows in 1.xx, but no longer do. There is no lore reason for this now. They straight up removed the consumable aspect of the class for streamlining purposes, and for the best. There is no reason not to do the same for Chemist, should it be the job, with their special healing potions.A lot of speculations are being tossed left and right about the gunclass being a potential healer - Chemist from FFT as source, I suppose.
