Holiday Events - Why aren't they more varied? Why always FATEs?

Lets see:

• "Summer" 2013: Collect tokens from a special Fate
• Halloween 2013: /emote heavy questline in the cities
• Christmas 2013: Collect tokens from a special Fate
• New Year's 2014: Questline that had you acting like a horse.
• Valentines Day 2014: Story questline with male female character item trades to finish.
• Little Lady's Day 2014: In city minion based questline.
• Easter 2014: Carrying maze questline in the cities and a Spriggan Easter egg hunt with the best rewards coming from a rare Fate.
• "Summer" 2014: Questline that unlocks 3 repeatable minigame quests in the Middle and Lower LN.
• Anniversary 2014: Bonus quest added to "Summer" 2014
• Halloween 2014: Transformation questline that leads to gathering tokens from a special Fate in Ul'dah

Only 4 events are tied to Fates so far. Are you sure you are not confusing the Seasonal events with the FFXI, FFXIII and Dragon Quest crossover events?

As much as I dislike FATEs being used for events (SE is really good at recycling dungeons, why not a special themed version of those dungeons with special rules), at least we don't have to deal with those bells.

Mechanically holidays can't be that varied. What I'd like to see is deeper elements to events beyond just a questline that finishes the event for you. Hate it as much as you want, but WoW had some decent ideas for holidays. Let's take their Halloween Event, for example...

I would love to see any of these type of ideas implemented into SE's holidays. Quality > Quantity. Having only say, 4 major holiday events a year to incorporate different types of holiday events and achievements would be amazing. This would give the development team 3 or more months to devote a team of developers/artists/etc towards creating memorable events. I like seeing the main cities and the wards take on decorations, but I am never excited about the actual events themselves.

No matter what you do, people are going to miss out if they don't play 24/7. At the very least, you can make certain glamor gear/minions available for gil purchase as the holiday cycles back (except for last year's pumkin heads >_>).

There was 1 FATE in the last Halloween event ^^

but it is inside the city and I can see why they do that, SOMEONE gotta lead the group sheep hunger for cookies ! and the fate act like a repeatable quest but now multi player can hang out together instead of I, my, me

I do like that we get holiday/special events. It's usually a nice change from the usual same old. I'm just honestly a little disappointed that most of the events are centered around fates. I liked the moonfaire event because we got to do stuff that wasn't killing enemies and oversized taru's for a change though. I'm not particularly filled with ideas because its late D:, However, side stories with the npc's and their backgrounds, more minions/mounts and maybe quests of their own, and etc would be nice.

Your definition of 'most' must be very different from mine, as less than half the seasonal events have involved FATEs.

I've only been subbed since this last April. I should've rephrased what I said and just said most "non seasonal" events revolve around fates. I didn't finish the Easter quest so I don't know if that involved fates or not. Moonlight Faire didn't either. Halloween, the Lightning event, the Shantotto event, and the golem events did, though? So most events that *I* have participated in do involve fates. Better? :/

^ this so much! i missed the summer event where you got the yukata's cause my pc was broken, now i don't know if i'll ever even get a chance to get them again unless SE decided to put them in their cash shop for a redundant amount of money (yes, $5 a piece is redundant for an in game item. $5 for the whole set? that's more reasonable). they were so cute too ; ;

But Lightning event, the FF XI event, and the Dragon Quest X event were not holiday events
