Because RMT.Why are they adding even more restrictions to leveling and unlocking the 'fun' ?
Before:
Players must reach level 30 with the job’s associated class.
After:
Players must reach level 30 with the job’s associated class, and have completed the main scenario quest "Sylph-management."
Anyway, it's a lvl 20 quest in the main story, pretty much right after Ifrit.
If they were serious about dealing with RMT they would remove the demand for it, such as doing away with the ridiculous housing prices.
As long as there is incentive to buy, the RMT will not stop.

You're both right. SE shoots themselves in the foot and causes the problem by making the housing prices astronomical... but even if they halved the prices, there are still a butt-load of players that are lazy and will buy from the gold-farmers. BUT the gold-farmers are there more because of the need for these huge price tags. Get rid of the need/want and there will be less of them.

Also what was the point of gating the advanced class behind Sylph Management? Any, or did they just decide to do something random?

I found this new requirement the most interesting thing about 2.41. My guess is to slow down botting in WP. Can't just bot to Flare anymore. (You didn't even have to unlock airships in story before. Could just walk from Ul'dah to Gridania to get ARC.)
