Longer answer: Discussed this with a GM once. Basically, they don't accept screenshots/videos/anything external to the game as evidence, lest it be tampered with. Someone could try to get someone else in trouble for something they didn't really do.

Parse away, even post videos of it, just don't talk about it in game.

edit: I can post a screenshot of the convo if there's interest, though it wasn't about parsers but there was talk about evidence they can accept.

I play on PS4 so no clue about parsers myself but I doubt he would be in much danger unless he was using it to tell others how horrible they are and was reported by those people.

That's correct, in FFXIV (not XI - whatever happened years ago in XI is irrelevant here) they don't allow external evidence, and it is true that they are lazy even with cases they are able to verify in game, like bots.

My friend would have to be idiot enough for getting banned, such as going to the game and use the chat for telling everyone "Hey, I use parsers and I'm recording videos with them here, oh, and tell Square Enix!"

Well, I kinda see it logic... External information such as videos and screenshots are easily manipulated and out of the sight of Square Enix, while... The internal data they have in the servers for the chat logs can't be altered by any others that's not Square Enix itself.

I'm not aware of anyone ever being warned/infracted/suspended for parser use without a healthy dose of harassment and asshattery going along with it.

There has not been a single ban for using parsers. Like others already said: top FC's use them and also show parsers. Never have I seen even a warning let alone a ban.

The question should be, when will SE implement parsers. I for one would love an ingame parser.

If the world were fair and the support staff efficient, yes because using a parser is against the ToS

The ToS also states they reserve the right to ban for no reason at all. Just because something is in there for technical reasons, doesn't necessarily mean actual practice abides by it.

Same goes for the forums, by the way. I received a warning and 24 hour ban for something somebody else wrote, once. Support just refused to help, got the same copy&paste response every time I tried explaining it to them.

They do not say in the ToS they reserve the right to ban for "no reason at all". You may disagree with the reason they do ban but there is always a reason behind it even if do not agree with it or when you do consider it a bad reason.
