I don't know about you, but except in FFXII, I always keep my characters using one type of weapon >.>Thats not the problem. Dark Knights have used axes in the past. The problem is they've never been restricted to ONRY AXUSEU!
It really is going to be sad when some jobs that are supposed to technically be masters of more then one weapon can't even do that thing thats part of their Final Fantasy History and lore. (Looking at Fighter/Warrior, Thief, Monk, Dark Knight, Dragoon, Ninja, Knight, Paladin, etc.)
Also Knight is not always "Paladin" Knight in FFT was simply the user who had access to special weapon and armor destroying abilities. They were a more advanced form of Squire. You could turn them into Paladins by equipping white magic as a sub skill.
Peach Parfait/Khulan Angura on Gilgamesh
a kung fu master with nanchuku or a bo staff would be sick!
FF1, 2, 3, 5 and T are among my favorite FF's, In all three you have almost free range to chose what ever weapons you really want to equip except some minor cases.
For instance in FF1, White Mages can equip Staffs, Maces, and Two handed Hammers.
Thats right HAMMERS. Epics right there.
In FF2, Any character can equip ANY WEAPON as long as its in the inventory.
In FF3 some jobs had limitations, but most had atleast 3 weapon style choices each so you were never weaponless should you change jobs.
FF5 was the same.
In FFT, You could equip White Mages with Axes, Dragoons with Swords, Mathematicians with Katanas, etc.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
I know, but I always kept my warrior using axes, monk using nunchakus (when available), thief using daggers, and mages using staffs.FF1, 2, 3, 5 and T are among my favorite FF's, In all three you have almost free range to chose what ever weapons you really want to equip except some minor cases.

Except in FFXII because sometimes a better weapon is available for your characters before you can get the weapon you want (grrrrrr, no katanas for a while).
