Getting to Level Cap is acutally for doing fun stuff / hard stuff with friends and fellow players. Getting some neat gear was always the tip of zeh icecream. Well at least for me.
My ePeen factor has been not so hardcore in those games. I always enjoyed horsing around with my friends and of course doing events where you could actually accomplish something as a group together.
Those Capped Gear thingies are just for making stuff easier. Better gear means easier fights (more or less, it's not that easy though!) and easier fights mean, you can help people get their shit as well.
A LS which is filled with people who all have all jobs @50 and eveything gear-wise will die at some point if there's no new players or new content to solve.
I think? XD
Seriously Why?
Make some friends, have some fun. Enjoy the game.
Your character grows, and when new content is available you will have better gear to enjoy it with.
If these things don't resonate with you, then (sincerely) why play at all?
Be prepared for when harder content is released?
Yeah you're right, I guess we should all remain R36 forever so there are 14 ranks of epic content above us.
Really; if you don't want to be R50 then don't post negative crap about 1 out of 4 perfectly reasonably points made in a rebuttal. Enjoy being R36, or rank up, or quit.
SE is putting out content finally and people are COMPLAINING that some of the gear is for max-rank players? Give me a break. There is lower rank content and the giant batch of NMs caters to mid-rank players...
Should FFXIV's "Absolute Virtue" already exist? What do you really want from this game, seriously?

Basic premise of all MMo's:
Level up > Get gear > Enter endgame > Get better gear > Do harder endgame > Get better gear
The cycle then repeats as you increase the cap.
The base line of any MMo, and to a lesser extent, any RPG, is to get better gear to get better gear, to get better gear.
If you are this far along and you feel you need to ask this question, without realising this, then your issues are far bigger than your silly question.
Thank god, someone with common sense and reasoning capabilities!Basic premise of all MMo's:
