Would a "Wings of the Goddess"-type expansion be doable in XIV?

First off, I've never played XIV in its first go-round so I'm not calling for it's return. However, I am curious about whether something like Wings could be done here, i.e. create an expansion that focuses on a conflict of the past through time travel. From what I can remember, while the storyline took too long in developing the overall expansion was good for XI in terms of gaining experience and NM hunting.

It would be interesting to see Team Yoshi recreate Eorzea pre-Calamity, along with areas that we never got to see. It would be equally interesting to see them create a storyline that would allow for such time travel (perhaps Louisoix will eventually leave the Coil?).

I have no idea if your idea would work or not but if I remember correctly on the wings story line, it wasn't really time travel but more of a alternate reality where the war never ended. I could be wrong though since I sadly didn't take the chance/time to seriously go through it. That's just what I heard.

It was in a sense time travel cause nothing was in ruin and some area were physically different such as North Gustaburg by Bastok. Imo it was one of the best expansions XI had, as for XIV don't think it would work all too well it would pretty much be 1.0 areas they would have to bring back.

The basic concept of WOTG was both time-travel and alternate realities -- since the events of the past can lead to mulitple outcomes. I believe the idea was "The Goddess Altana cried at the outcome of the war and her tears became the 9 Cait Sith who summond Atamos who created a bridge to Altana's dream of the future to allow people from that possible timeline to come back to the past and alter the outcome." or something like that.

    Major spoilers here for you.

WOTG came about because there was a war between the children of Altana and the beast tribes, a war which we actually went and lost, obviously the Goddess didn't really like that plan so totally split dimensions, the XI dimension where we actually won the war, and the real dimension where we lost the war - the bad guys are actually not bad guys, they are just "us" from the real dimension (the ending was pretty sad too).

Sadly, the expansions zones are dead, and not many people bothered to complete the storyline, most times you see people there are when they needed objectives for Mog weapons.

The problem with this is that the Crystal War in XI was content that had only been alluded to or referenced by various NPCs in the main game, Zilart and CoP. It was literally uncharted territory for the most part.

For them to do something similar with XIV would require them to basically re-release content/storyline from 1.0 which to me would not only be somewhat lazy in my opinion but also unfair to people who did play 1.0 and stick it out, paving the way for ARR. It's the same reason Yoshi-P is against having the 1.0 Nael fight in ARR, it would basically be slapping those players in the face.

What they COULD do though, is create an Abyssea or Dynamis type alternate reality/world scenario (In scenario/situation only, not mechanics wise) where the timeline branches off and the world is effectively conquered by either the Garleans, Ascians, or Beast Tribes for either an add-on or expansion (ie, what if the Garlean invasion during the Meteor Project had been a success, what if the Warrior of Light never emerged after Meteor, what if the Warrior of Light was killed by Ultima Weapon, etc.)

If you're interested in what could make a good story line for time travel, go look up the Turn 12 introduction cutscene on youtube. It would be more "War of the Ancients" book from WoW than "WOTG", but still would be epic.

Why would you want a time travel expansion every zone in 1.0 was just copy and paste in the whole zone.

I would love an expansion where we could travel back to peak of the Nym civilization or maybe even Pre-Allagan. I have no idea what kind of plot devices they'd need to employ to justify our need to go there, or explain how our influence there wouldn't create a paradox. They did that well in FFXI by explaining that the Vana of the "present" we lived in was an alternate reality to the one we went back to. So even when something was eliminated in the past, they could still be saved and it didn't create a paradox.

What if, we actually caused the destruction of the Nym because we went back in time due to some plot device or another. Perhaps there could even be an alternate reality where the Nym never vanished. Something like that.

Considering that time travel and alternate realities (and the intermixing of the two) are a recurring theme in many Final Fantasy games, it would be a good bet that they will do something along those lines in this game at some point in the future.

Why not go further back then the 1.0 era. I say let us go back to when the Allagan Empire was still around.
