Keep past content out of Cash Shop

I've spoken to more people in game about this situation, and many players are completely ignorant that these items were available. Each person I've spoken too (despite the ones that vehemently claim they don't care about vanity but have glamours, doh!) exclaimed their disbelief at the prices. Although many players prefer not to get involved, that doesn't mean they're not affected by this show of bad business. This is a sure fire way to turn off consumers without even knowing about it.

Anyone that says they don't care about vanity is just lying. I haven't seen anyone that is actually wearing armor without it glamoured except newer people that have not unlocked the quest. Anyway, I think anything that was in game should stay that way seasonal or not.

It's unlikely that they'll go cheaper than the current price because a good chunk of that is going to get eaten up in payment processor fees. A certain amount of that fee is a fixed price. The only effective ways to make it cheaper and still be worth doing would probably be to either a) make them a bit more expensive but account-bound, not character-bound, or b) sell them in bundles. But I'm not sure if anyone wants bundles for these sorts of items.

Thanks so much Poly, I totally didn't even think about those fees on SE's side. I definitely agree with the bundles. Either way, I really think there were a lot of better ways to handle this for their consumer base. ^^

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet ( only got to page 20 ), but people rushed out to buy the Collectors edition just for the fat chocobo. They spent extra money, and quite a bit, just for an in game vanity mount. So obviously, the demand is there, we will just have to wait and see what the supply exactly is before we start on the "End of P2P, gouging for gated content" rants.

That's definitely a good point, but the point of that argument is that item was never offered for free in game. These items were. They were deliberately taken out just to get more money. This, in my opinion, is the very definition of double dipping.

Ahh last years items. I have no qualms about it. None, why? It's only last years items and let's face it, what do you do with it once you have? sure I've seen the odd one or 2 people the pumpkin head but majority of people on my server I never see them wear it. It's not gona kill you if you don't have it or you have to fork out extra £ just because you started again and it's hardly needed to beat the game.

It's purely vanity but also can only be obtained on that year. Just be happy we have a option for those who missed out on it and they use the money they get from us to do things like EU data centers in the EU!


pure and simple, if you don't agree with, no one is forcing you to buy it so don't buy it, also your not gonna be the suckiest character if you don't have a Ghost outfit.


If anything, if SE is using the funds to give us a better exp like they said then I'm all for it

That's definitely how some people feel. There are a few arguments within this thread against that line of thinking that make a lot of sense. Personally, I feel they can make plenty of money without business practices that make them look greedy. By taking out free items that were available purely to sell them, the cash shop begins to resemble that of the Korean cash shop market, which is absolutely disdainfully looked upon in America and other countries. Not to mention, those cash shop practices are more in line with a F2P game not a P2P game. ^^

Looking at it from a different angle, it actually makes sense for SE to do it this way - every so often you'll see yet another thread from a new player begging SE to bring back such and such special event gear that particular player missed out on, and so instead of having to make those who missed out wait a year or so for that event vendor to return, they can simply buy it off the Mogstation, and SE makes money from it as well. It's win-win in their mind.

Really, as long as no Legacy/exclusive items like the gobbuue mount or Legacy chocobo are offered (because that would be a big slap in the face towards Legacy members who stuck by SE and the game in it's darkest hour), then I see no problem with this if it's purely vanity stuff like costumes and minions.
