I personally believe that people with thin skin shouldn't be joining a contest like this where they are subjecting their work to criticism if they're not prepared for the negative critiques. Leave the Ra Ra stuff to the primary schools.
erm, no (respectfully). Adults need cheering just as much (actually more) than little kids do. ^^ Like I mentioned in my post, this is the entire concept I run my FC on (with quite of bit of success, I might add.) Inspired by ENTM, I held a screenshot contest with minion prizes for my FC and judged the photos in a similar fashion to my C3R1 vote post. No feels were hurt. Even the 'weakest' photos had good points to bring out. :3

I'm not saying go all Simon Cowell on them. I'm just saying don't hold back good criticism for fear of hurting a few feels.

LOL! XD Or replace the harshest critique being named Judge X with THE SIMON. XDDDD
But yes, I do agree that ENTM should be similar to the show... less hand holding and moar DRAMAZ.

Ooo, I like that idea. Makes it so much clearer. I usually use the emailed schedule, since there are just too many posts in this thread to find anything XD Wouldn't have it any other way, though ♥ So many pages of screenshot love!

There are both upsides and downsides to shortening the voting time in order to let people use the critique they get. On the one side, you have a chance to re-shoot, on the other, less time for forum readers to participate...
I'm okay either way, just don't change that deadline day, please X3 *last minute-cat*

How well I know your pain... I don't RP any of my FFXIV chars, but I've done RPing and writing before, and they have a rather insistant voice of their own!

Sienna - Don't be disappointed! I'm not sure if we're allowed to pick what-if-i-could votes as participants, but this IS after the fact and I'd like to tell you that yours was one of my absolute favourites.

Rongi - I'll see if I can squeeze in yet another alt As for Skype, I don't know if I should or not! I'm already having trouble dividing my focuse between making huge forum posts, linkshells, FC- and partychats, and doing overly complicated screenshoots - so I'm not sure how I'd be able to keep up with an outside chat too XD While at the same time... Peeeeopleeeee!

Regarding harshness of critique, I haven't read all of the judges' ones, so what I'm about to say isn't solely based on those:
I think it's a very fine line to walk - you want to give constructive feedback, which isn't always fluffy-nice, without being so harsh you kill off someone's creativity. That's something I dislike about the early seasons of ANTM, and some other shows too, that judges sometimes seemed to say things as brutally as possible for the shock effect and entertaining the audience. Later seasons have been toned down and though there are opinions like "this bores me", they also give the models something to build on, giving the judging segment a lot more depth. So, is the critique for the readers or the screenshotters? Since individual tolerance level is just that, individual, you can't really make a template of this is okay to say an this isn't. But it's a good thing to keep in mind =)

Ah well, that's water under the bridge now I picked the one I did because the sun minion still worked for making us visible, and I still like it very much personally, but I fully understand the critique people had about the lighting and agree with them. Hopefully I can do better next time!

Hehe, I was not suggesting to not have constructive criticism, in fact I am encouraging it. I just think "the shot should be completely redone" is not constructive - why should it be redone? What elements made it not worthy of being in the competition?

Primary schools are scary places - those kids don't hold back and speak only truths at you!
(By the way, if you were being mean about my suggestion/my career - whatever. I also use the Two Stars and a Wish philosophy when marking work of University students, too - very helpful in adult learning.)

I am not entirely sure the judge comments should be showcased to the general public, I dunno, cause I already got a bone to pick in the first round stuff,

Judge D for females, you cant flail about 1 dark shot and give it a 0 and than have another dark shot that has the exact same lighting/colors/scheme what have you and give it a 2,(that even had the top look) not only that but this goes for everyone atm, the dark shot OMG reaction needs to stop, people were disqualified last cycle for such silly over the top reactions when the shot was a really powerful one, somehow everyone seems to be in this boat of preconceived notions that this thing needs to have flood lights and colors galore to be an acceptable shot.

I am already noticing this in quite a few comments/reactions on some of these photos this round, I fear the next round already.

I like the idea of the critiques, but maybe they need to be held to certain standards or guidelines?

Maybe they should be sent privately? But I'd rather there not be more work piled up on top of what they have right now. I do understand where you're coming from for the whole "too dark" fiasco. But I'm not the person who wrote it, so I can't say for sure of the reason for it. I'm sure there's one though.

I intend on taking part in one of the future cycles on my alt, so I'll tender my opinion on public judge critiques. I think they should be public. Without artistic critiques visible to the voting public this becomes little more than a popularity contest and who would honestly be interested in following one of those?

    Judge D from the men's contest is different from Judge D in the women's, just to clarify ^^;
