Yeah, your woes regarding to blist a handful of people are not justification enough to never allow any of the rest of us to duel one another.

I'm assuming a lot of you have never actually enjoyed a duel. Duels are fun, and considering this is based off a JRPG, it makes perfect sense that fellow hero's would test skill against each other. Dueling systems usually have an auto-deny feature so you don't have to worry about being spammed. It doesn't effect PVE in the slightest because you can't balance 1v1. There is literally no negative to adding dueling. It just add's another mode of entertainment to the game.
Dueling also open's up the world to players. I remember dueling on the floating islands in Out Realm not only for scenery, but the possibility of ring outs as well. Now look at Eorzea. We have a lot of beautiful local's that can be used for dueling vids, which bring's even greater interest to the game.
A majority of my FC mates are dying for dueling so that we can hold tournaments.
Wrong. This is not WoW where you have the whole Alliance vs Horde thing - here we're all on the same side regardless of national allegiances. Really, lets not mince words here. This all about ego and nothing else.
Of course, if it was a restricted, tournament thing in a specific location (such as the Colosseum in Ul'dah or the soon-to-be-added Gold Saucer) that isn't part of the main game, thus avoiding the whole issue of harassment which has forever tainted my opinion on 1vs1 duelling in MMOs, then I'm all for it.
But open world duelling... no. Just... no.
I still don't see how auto-deny isn't avoiding harassment. I mean hell, every time I wanna check the market board or my retainer I have to deal with several lalafell running around doing as many emotes as possible with the highest possible voices.
Also, it is kinda Maelstrom/Immortal Flames/Twin Adder. They work together, doesn't mean they all get along. You also had Alliance Dueling Alliance and Horde dueling Horde. This isn't about ego or harassment. This is about opening up another avenue of fun.
So you auto-deny a duel and the person does a tell or emote showing disapproval. Black list, done.
^ Yep, pretty much.
Sad thing is, the OP actually started with a good idea on another thread, the 1v1 in the wolves' den pier seems like a feature a lot of people would enjoy for sure. This new proposal isn't appropriate in a main PVE game like FFXIV though.
Back on this thread, just no... if you re really in need to boost your ego at a level that you MUST be able to challenge anyone anywhere... this isn't the right game for you, FFXIV isn't one of the many "korean-mmo pvp/pve" as Aion or ArcheAge we get all around.
2 solutions :
1) If you want to test your player skill level in this game, build your raid team and go challenge coil / ex primals.
2) Not interested by PVE? Then you may reconsider your room in this game.
Here's the thing alot of PvP people seem to want to pretend doesn't exist. The harassment. It's real, it happens, and it's unavoidable. Square, though, doesn't want to force people to have to deal with it if they can help it. It's why there's Wolves' Den and Frontlines and not open world like what's being suggested here (for the umpteenth time). Sure, a completely voluntary duel system is completely voluntary, but as has been said there will be those that see it as mandatory. And will do everything in their power to make you see it that way, too. Everything. And in this RMT /tell world we don't have enough resources to deal with immature egotists AND RMT at the same time. This is, again, best left as a Wolves' Den mode than open world. Wolves' Den has it's own aetheryte, it's not hard to go there and satisfy your itch.
@Atomnium, sad thing is most of the posters in there were saying "this' pointless, just allow dueling in the open-world!".
Then may god have mercy on their souls, the number of interesting posters on this forum is probably less than a couple of dozen...
Why would you want to integrate a feature like "free duel option in openworld" that will 100% lead to even more harassment in this game. I let you imagine the number of problems the GMs team would have to handle in addition to current ones... It's common and basic logic, it got proved in many other mmos.
My advice, just let this thread and the egotists dies in this one, your first idea about 1v1 in wolves' den arenas should deserve more views, because it's not only a clever idea, it's actually a true solo pvp content that would please a lot of people. And I'm going to bump with a thumb-up your first thread right now.
In every MMO i been that there is PVP ..duel request ..i got harrassed alot that why i dont play anymore free or any other MMO i only have FF14 on my PC ...
I GOT tired of getting out of town and directly get duel request when you just started the game and if you dont you get follow around all time and even after log off and back on he is still near and come back sending request ...
Doing a quest fighting monster and getting duel request (cos i fight with some friends only) and get kill cos you got suprise and couldnt heal in time....
Have the request off ... the guy wait you fight a monster come as quick and do a trade request making you get yourself kill cos you said no to duel ....
Dont tell me that never happen cos i lived it and that why i only play with ff14 and other game are single player.
I support the 1vs1 idea i love it .....but not in open world dual request pls ... they could put arena around the world ..when you enter the circle its unlock duel request.

^My friend had another request involving open-world arenas & people mostly flamed it because it would take up their precious PvE space.
I swear so many of the PvP haters on these forums are so incredibly selfish lol.
I've tried to come up with reasonable compromises but alas.
