I think the female DRG af bothers me because it is SO RIDICULOUS.

Like, it's fine if you don't mind it, but doing mental backflips to explain it away as non-sexist is laughable.

They are not going to change it, but I think it's a good example of what NOT to do.

For vanity items, whatever. For AF, some sense please.

Call me crazy, but XIV has to be one of the least sexualized MMO's I've played in quite a while. The models aren't especially curvy or detailed, and even swimsuits look about as innocent as they would on a toddler. I'm just saying, I think its a non-issue here.

I think that it's impossible to deny that there's elements of sexuality represented in FFXIV - I mean, there has always been subtle sexual imagery in FF games, and at the risk of exoticizing, there's the whole different-culture different-tastes thing at play here. Like, I cannot count the number of armorsets or female NPC designs I've found that are basically designed to let you show off or see that little 10% of thigh people go crazy over. So, things like the Dragoon AF bellyhole definitely strike me as a sexual inclination (showin' off the navel or abdomen is definitely, well, a thing for some people,) but not really an egregious one.

Except the fact that the naked DRG AF bellyhole looks kinda weird from a visual design perspective. Like it's really jarring and janky how pointy it looks and stuff.

Also, I managed to lose this bit of post, but basically, FFXIV's approach to sexuality is less egregious to us because some of it is just plain foreign (literally), and for the most part, it seems aimed at everyone rather than some of the armor designs you see in other MMO's that are obviously aimed at, well...young men. Also, again, it's subtle, and it's easy to ignore or forget subtle things that you don't like.

Things like "A bikini catgirl flirts with your character in skippable sidequest text (regardless of gender, I might add!)" are far less explicit and far less singularly-appealing than, say, every female character in TERA being forced to wear that weird 3/4ths naked armor that has the weird cleavage-hip-thigh window that doesn't even look good from a visual design perspective but DAMN IT WE NEED TITTIES.

Basically, yeah, I would say it's a non-issue by and large. I'd just prefer to keep it a nonissue (especially where AF armor is concerned.)

While there's plenty of validity to criticisms of sexism in FFXIV's design, at least it doesn't have that.

Random conflict out of a non-issue. People talking about practicality and realism in a game a city sized dragon wiped out an entire continent from a prison-moon and the biggest threats can easily kill you, any level of armor be damned.

Female Avatars have LOTS of options and rarely any scantily based costumes, don't like DRG AF? Glamour and stop making these topics.

I think most of us will just continue to play this and still look at it here. Your blustering isn't going to make the armor less revealing in a game that has men wearing subligar just because a few female outfits are ALSO revealing*.

*Er... well, more revealing. But yeah. I don't think SE is much concerned about modesty when they have men prancing around near naked, too.

No, actually I like this game alot. And I also like to have options to have women either covered up, looking sexy but still covered and more sexy than covered. They don't need to be TERA leveled, I'd rather actually see more than basically somewhat close knit armor on even my Monk. If there's plenty of armors to make someone look cool over practicality, than sexiness should suddenly not be an option either.
