No Rogue in Character Creation?

No not MRD, PUG. Need 15 PUG for NIN.

For convenience sake, if you want to main NIN on a new character, the best choice is to level Arcanist or Marauder (ideally the later as Marauder will have CC skills that will be useful for the NIN) until you unlock the Armory System (which is around level 10). You can't travel to Limsa Lominsa on foot if your starting city is Gridania or Ul'dah, as boat and airship travel are both locked behind the city-state envoy quest chain.

I don't know about Limsa, but I did go on foot to Gridania on my Thaumaturge from Ul'Dah at LV 10 to level up Conjurer for Cure and Protect and use Cure as self-healing skill. I could not do LV 10 story quest because it was too hard so I could not go further. So I could not use the ferry and air ships. But after I unlocked Conjuror and got Cure, I could self-heal and I managed to do LV 10 story quest after.

Yeah, La Noscea is an island (a big one, granted, but still one), you can't get there by land under any circumstances unless you're there already as others have said.

the only other option would be to join a free company that has a house in limsa district and walk it from there.
