So, to delay the datamining a couple hours they decide to screw anyone who doesnt have a fast internet conection.

They don't care that much about datamining...they pretty near cough everything up in the patch notes these days anyways. On the topic of Patch Notes...the released Notes ARE the full Notes. That was the point of the apology dev post. They derped and released the unedited Notes with the crafting recipes. That and managed to get 2.45 and 2.5 patch content left on the list.

I forgot which patch it was but I remember there was no response from SE for the entire day until the last hr where they announced an extension which lasted a few hrs. Followed by an emergency maintenance. So effectively most of patch day was unplayable due to server maint. And also due server instability when we actually got to play.

2.2 I think. That was the last 24 hour one. They brought the servers up then quickly found an issue and brought them right back down. Not sure what the issue was then.

Do you guys also want hourly tweets from the techs saying "There There...don't worry...the patch is still on time. Here's an instagram pic of one of the server stacks getting rewired". They're taking longer than previous patches to put the client update up but that can easily be technical problems.

Actually yeah that would be cool to see the hardware behind the game, you get a gold star!

They apologized for giving recipe details, preliminary patch notes also omit other stuff that could change near the end, there's more to see in the full notes.

If I remember correctly, they've gotten xivdb.com to remove datamined information from their site until the servers were back up before, so it seems to be something they care about for some reason.

As soon as you hit the FFXIV shortcut, that white window that pops up saying "checking update/launcher version" that's the server the patch information would be stored on. It's up and running. There's an ulterior motive behind delaying the patch.

Clearly the OP has never been here for a major content patch update. Everything is fine and going along like normal. Sit tight and deal with it when you aren't the first person in because you're still downloading the patch. You'll live.

Since 2.0 you've been able to launch the launcher and log-in during maintenance but the usually Green Log-in button after logging in blacked out. The game checks for version updates after you log-in in the launcher, not when the launcher launches, it checks for launcher updates when the launcher is opened, not game updates.

Not quite right. That is the version check for the LAUNCHER. The client update is separate to that and always been tied to the server it contacts after logging in.
