    I would personally love to see our job stones become a vessel like the animus spheres, (maybe a quest to "etch" multiple ones?) where we can put abilities into certain "roles" and equip them to sort of tweak the classes we're playing. It'd be really cool for a PLD to be tankish all around, but put attack style abilities into a job stone, with some double attk, or fight or flight style boosts or sword oath with a %based increase to auto-attacks or something, and equip that to sorta fill in a DPS role, or with white magic, like more ways of curing and buffing a party for defense, and have it spec'd as a healer styled role.... I dunno how that would exactly work, but the jobs right now need something to set them all apart...

    essentially if you played FFXI, you'd be playing with meritable job stones

    What if your character has to imbue the Job Soul Cryst into their Aether to continue leveling that Job (50+) - thus eliminating the class forever.

    With this they could lore friendly remove the classes for 50+ players while maintaining classes for new players.

    1. Because Dark Knight doesnt have a base class.
    2. Because they keep talking about restructure skills and balance them out.
    3. Because SCH and SMN share the same base class although have different roles.
    4. There only one healer class you can start with.
    5. Classes are obsolete and no one use them passed Lv30.
    6. This will bring more uniqueness to each job and perhaps abolish cross class skills.

    They wont get rid of the class system, why? Because it DOES offer some advantages. For example the gun class they teased If they make it just Agent well... yeah.

    But if they make it Musketeer and let it shoot into Agent like they teased possibly as the healer and pulled an Arcanist and let it also go a DPS road as a different job like Corsair or something like that it could still work fine. There is no real need to abolish classes, at all.

    A Job like Dark Knight though they had the advantage of making something as a 2 handed user and likely they want people to level something new from level one (since many people would already level the class its based on to 50 and remove the leveling aspect) and give it brand new skills and abilities since if it was based off GLA, MRD or anything else for that matter. the skills would be redundant. It also gives them a good opportunity to bring a new weapon style into the game as well as more lore.

    It would be really hard to remove classes because they are firmly entrenched into the game with guilds and class quests.

    yah but its an Expansion so they could redesign many things just like they did from 1.0 to 2.0. Also it would be strange to have some jobs w/o base classes. While other do have.

    with my previous post, it'd be cool with the soulstone to use a CLASS to exp/quest for your guild/job NPC guy, the ability to etch further buffs into the soulstone.... at least a reason to start using a class.....right?! IT'S SOMETHING!!!

    I don't think it would be strange at all. Classes are in Eorzea's lore the jobs are a further extension of those classes with more defined roles. We have Gladiators then we have Paladins. Both have their own lore and background. Dark Knight is likely just that. It enables them to establish the DRK lore longer and in much more detail than if they give the first like 7 quests to a class and the remaining to DRK.

    Yep we have to keep in mind that Lore wise the Jobs are special because only few people are able to actually learn and master the Jobs.

    Dark Knight most likely will have a Lore reason why it is a Job without a class while keeping the concept that Jobs can only be learned by very few people worthy of the Soulstones.

    I believe they've said a few times now that the expansion will be *as big* as a realm reborn was (in terms of change)
    To remove the classes, refine the jobs- their abilities, stats and bonus stat individuality.. their purpose.... that would be GREAT.

    I would be ALL for it. Sure the quests were cute.. but they could still convey a lot of that back story through the intermittent quests (lvl5, lvl10, etc.)

    However.
    I can't disregard they are releasing new classes and jobs prior to the expansion. This rogue / ninja one is coming now, and then a class that involves guns (no mention of the job)
    This would be sort of anti-productive if they are just going to be revamping how everything works come the expansion. But hey, maybe its just a show- a gimmick, something to keep fans interested and subscriptions paid so that they can continue developing a more in depth job system for the expansion.

    Perhaps the idea is that this expansion is taking place in a new area where players will move from 50 to 60, and part of that journey will include discovering new jobs that do not require you start from level 1? (Not sure how they would do this, but I know that it makes sense from a developer standpoint. Otherwise it would be a couple weeks before you had the new jobs unlocked and leveled up joining the ranks of the endgame crowd, not to mention how long it would take for them to be geared up for the content.. It would be neat to see the new jobs coming with the expansion join your ranks as you climb from 50 to 60 the very first time, and to have the opportunity to do so yourself. I'm thinking Death Knight from WoW right now, a series of quests to get an idea of how to play the role... then you're loose to join other high level players.)
