1.0 Was also a disaster and they couldn't really do much with it due to the code it had. The vast majority of the MMO population doesn't want to do content they don't get rewards from FACT. A lot of people only have legacy status and subbed 3 months to get the discount.
Relying on real people doesn't make it great. You get a lot of d-bags monopolizing items, spawns and the markets. RMT tend to run rampant for people who buy the best gear rather than doing anything for it. It has VERY major flaws. FAR more flaws that advantages. Making crafters make the best items you would get charged 5million gil for 2 extra strength(just like in ffxi). It makes the majority of the MMO players turn away from it its why ffxi's population was so small compared to other MMORPGs even in its prime. FFXI had MANY complaints. One was that it took too long to save up gil to get an item you needed from the AH or a crafter that was better than any drop.
We don't have a lot of D bags in this game monopolizing on other crap in ffxiv 2.0? Just because an MMO doesn't have millions of players does not mean it wasn't successful, my most played mmos were ffxi, than mabinogi, ffxiv 1.x than everything else.
I loved going out and farming for gil and obtaining gil and finally being able to buy a piece of gear that will last me till end game. It was great. none of this grab and toss crap we have now. Everything meant something when you got it in that game. There is no meaning to anything you do in this game, there are no long term goals just short term.
My definition of an mmo is a cohesiveness between its players all interacting with one another in some shape or form. Crafters provide the gear for warriors. Warriors provide the crafters material. It goes full circle and that's how it should be. Though, I guess this is just a single player game with multiplayer aspects.

What's being monopolized in 2.0? I can't see the reasoning with this statement. Also, Yoshi stated at the EU fanfest that all cash shop items will be available for obtainment in game. To me it sounds like just an alternate path to obtain certain items.

I'm just saying this is one of the worst communities I've played with. So, the D bag statement is true. but with any mmo theres always something.
You contribute to this community being bad and have since 1.0. Some legacy players STILL remember you for trolling forums and Uldah shout and you haven't even been playing. That says a lot to your contribution to this toxic community. And why have you chosen this game to be your victim? there are plenty of other MMOs out that "arent doing it right" you could be harassing. You don't play, you just wish it something it is not and will never be.
My scary story time was classic! Anyways, I'm never mean to anyone calling people names and stuff. Though, Duty Finder, from what I've found in various mmos is it makes it where you do not need to be kind because most likely or not your reputation does not matter in duty finder. Thus, you are able to get away with a lot more crap than you would inside your own server. So, no, I'm not the cause or nor do I contribute to the toxic community. Please before saying I'm a terrible person for voicing my opinion, get to know me a bit.

There is no meaning to anything you do in *any* game I'm afraid. You can either choose to play or not. Doesn't matter whether its FF, ESO, candysmash, angry birds or whatever.
The meaning you get from it is the meaning you put into it for yourself. *You* make your goals for yourself. Why are you expecting a game to do it for you? The game company makes the content, *you* decide what parts of it you want/don't want to do.
Long term goals? There are actually plenty, if you *choose* to pursue them. PvP ranks to get/use PvP gear, sightseeing log (don't use the internet and figure them out yourself), weekly challenge logs, beast tribe daily quests for rank 8, vanity gear for you and chocobos, titles, crafting tier 3 (soon to be tier 4) and gathering, gearing up to do end game content for each class. These are just a few things i can list off the top of my head. There is still so much content that even after playing since launch, I can work towards my goals making daily progress and *still* never having enough time in the day to actually do everything I wanted to do.
It is what *you* choose to make of it.

Only as HQ with 3 materias in them (where the gear can vanish if the 2nd and all the other materias after it failed)
If you want crafting gear as alternative best gear again, there need to be the risk in melding again
Which is okay and welcomed. There are no risks in this game at all.
