Yoshi-P has already said no PK, thank the Gods.

I'm definitely a PvE player. I honestly very rarely care for PvP, unless it's to control an area which grants a significant reward (ie opening access to a dungeon). But since this game isn't set up for nation/faction rivalry, that isn't an issue.

IF PvP makes it into this game, it needs to be in a controlled setting. I'm fine with the sports-style matches they've talked about.

    But no forced PvP, ever!

Creating separate servers does not fix the issue of balancing classes. I played WoW as well, PvP is the funnest aspect but also very frustrating when your class gets the nerf bat because they're "too bursty" or whatever. Albeit, some nerfs are warranted, but the frustration and re-rolling remains.
FFXIV doesn't need a jump button. I agree with another poster (somewhere in these forums) who suggested the FFXIII approach; to jump in a designated spot only to surpass certain areas/obstacles. Jumping, swimming, flying are what make a lot of games fun and unique, but this is a traditional RPG with its own flavor. I think that if we tamper too much we'll lose what makes Final Fantasy fun and unique in its own.

PVP will probably be in an Arena form. That's for sure, based on what SE told us for far.

How can they make it fun and popular tho'? I think some how it would be nice to be able to watch the fights. Like have regular tournaments with prizes and be able to build a reputation and fame. There would be 1 vs 1 matches and also team/parties matches.

This would probably cause some lagg issues.... but how nice would it be if you could just come in a coliseum like building where PVP matches take places while other players are watching and cheering.

Exclamation In regards to PvP, from Producer/Director Yoshida

Greetings everyone. FFXIV Producer/Director Yoshida has posted some comments related to PvP and your discussion about it in general. Please take a look at what he has to say and keep his comments in mind!

Hi everyone, this is Producer/Director Yoshida.

Thanks so much for the lively discussion about PvP.

Since PvP falls under battle improvement content this is something that won’t be implemented for some time, but I really appreciate your feedback.
We’re not planning to implement a form of PvP where you can get caught off guard and killed by another player, so in that regard, you can rest at ease.

I consider myself to be a PvPer, so I understand a lot about the advanced nature of PvP in general. However, I would be really happy if everyone could continue to discuss your thoughts on PvP and think about what kind of PvP would best fit within the world of FFXIV. (I understand that PvP is a feature that has things that people enjoy and things that people oppose as well.)

So does this mean we can put the final nail in the coffin of this thread?

As i posted above, an arena type of PVP with other players being able to watch and cheer would be fun. Also to make sure people don't just forget about it with time it would be nice if it awards some items or armors/weapons.... Makes your character gain some type of reputation or fame.

Any one else has some cool suggestions?

I'm so excited to finally express my thoughts on Final Fantasy PvP! There are a number of ways to implement PvP into FFXIV. There's Chocobo Racing! Players could raise their chocobos and race them for notoriety and rewards. Maybe delve into Tetra Master or something similar! Players could sit down and duke it out in a friendly game of cards. My favorite idea would be to create teams (similar to 3v3 arena in WoW) and compete vs. another team in a turn-based battle (think traditional Final Fantasy battles)! Another great idea would be to create a Final Fantasy Tactics PvP scenario; almost like playing chess with your fellow adventurers. Not sure if you can incorporate ideas from other franchises within the same company, though.

I would like to see a less punishing version of Darkfall's PvP. For those who have never played the game, it's an open world, unrestricted PvP between warring races and the ability of clans to declare war on clans of allied races. They also have full looting of player's corpses. Killing members of allied races leads to the player being marked as evil and anyone is allowed to PK them (like Runescape, the old days of RS PvP was golden... loved that). Since we don't have warring races, I'm going to skip over that part.

That's the rundown of Darkfall, what I'd like to see from FFXIV is the ability for companies to declare unilateral war on other companies and allow to PK each other without penalties or loss of loot. This I like because companies that use bots like in FFXI will be at war with practically the entire server and we could police ourselves and make open-world HNMs more fun/competitive and less QQ. And if a company has a monopoly then the rest of the server can have a "revolution" against them.

In addition, players should be able to PK other players they aren't at war with but gradually make it so it decreases their "reputation" and if they do too much of it then they are marked as "evil" and players are allowed to PKK them without penalty as well as the ability to fully loot their corpse. Also make it so they are instantly marked as evil to the company that the PK'd player was apart of for the sweet revenge with a one-time PK. That would limit excessive grief'ing because of the consequences. Or maybe instead of marking players as evil and fully lootable, allow PK'd players to place a bounty on their PKer. Something to reward PKKers and punish grief'ing.

As far as balancing goes... this is FFXIV, players can practically use any skill/weapon/armor in the game. If something is great for PvP then any player can obtain and use it. Honestly, the armory system makes PvP balancing very easy since no player is denied an ability, ie no severely overpowered class. Only stubborn people who don't want to put the effort in to advance their character would be denied these abilities.

Darkfall also allows clans to build fortresses/towns (carpenters) and lay siege and destroy each other's hamlets... implementing that in FFXIV would make me /drool. With as much room as we have in Eorzea, this could fill up all that empty space and have us fighting over prime real estate.

A PvP system like this would create villains and heroes on every server (although I'm not opposed to PvE only servers) and would allow us to make our own content/stories.

Sorry for the long post, but PvP is huge to an MMO. . . if we aren't competing against each other then we may as well be playing an offline game.
