If you check out the original post you'll see images of the NPC's and lists of their merchandise. That merchandise was offered to every player whether they finished it or not. I didn't finish some of the 1.xx content and was able to pick those costumes up. It was an amazing feature that they took out in order to sell for money.

This idea that the vocal 'minority' can't change anything is disheartening to hear. We have changed things in the past. Look at the housing prices. They weren't supposed to go any lower than a specified amount, but due to player outcry (on these forums) it was changed.

Just look at how GW2 forums changed a recently implemented feature within 24hrs - http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/10/...-of-complaints

If those of us that simply accepted this without question looked into SE's new change of practice, and if those customers expressed what was fair and wasn't, the company would listen. They have before. ^^

I'm not saying it's impossible. Actually, that'd be contradictory to another one of my posts (or maybe I didn't post it lol) where I explicitly say that the community has been the reason for many tweaks in the game.

I'm just saying that it's really unlikely, given what people want. That is, for them to either nix the idea altogether (in which case, they just wasted a ton of time on the implementation of it, and it's contents), or for them to make alternative ways to earn them. I don't have to explain why the first option isn't happening. But, I think people don't understand that having an alternative method to gaining 'exclusive' items, means the shop would be a lot less marketable. Again, vote with your wallet instead of making this huge deal out of something that... really isn't. This is a business decision of theirs, and making it less marketable for 'moral value' is hardly going to sit well with higher-ups.

There's a lot I dislike about GW2, but I do love the involvement of ArenaNet with the community, something many companies would do well to learn.

Yoshida's team is also involved with the community, but to a much lesser extent, and I always feel like there's a sort of disconnect between the devs and the community, I started feeling this when they gave that excuse prior to removing glazenut from the magicked stable broom recipe, they "didn't know" it would be expensive.
