Lolwut peeps still crazy for Odin even when they got a stack of Odin's MantleI disagree with cash shops and the main issue with it is it will be successful where SE will do it all the time. Then more & more cash shops will be added and eventually are subs will not be used to make content for this game but for more cash shops where we would have to pay for it. Then eventually this game will become pay to win when they start added those features in.
Now selling those old seasonal event items is fine but completely new items that are only limited to cash shop... no thanks.
They could of just made new Odin mount a rare Primal Pony or cost 20 Odin Fate items.
That would get everyone going to odin again.
Nice to see you've got yourself a nice little dividing line between content and not content.
Content:
Dungeons, Quests, Primals,
Not Content: Character customisation, Items
Where do animations fit in? Custom animations are fairly common in Cash Shops. Auto-levelling to max level? That's in the biggest P2P Cash Shop, Gil? You can buy Plex and sell it for ISK in EVE. Entry level endgame items?
The list goes on and on and Yoshi-P can 're-interpret' his wording about vanity only in future as he has done with several other aspects of the game.
I don't have anything against a vanity cash shop, so all I can say is that I look forward to reading the continued cries that the sky is falling from atop my shiny new Sleipner mount![]()

I don't mind the cash shop, as long as it's just vanity items and that the prices are decent. I know the devs for Eve Online have over-priced vanity items in their cash shop, like a pair of glasses for 25-30$, I don't want to see that in FF XIV cash shop.
I also agree that using real life money instead of a point system is a big plus.
English is NOT my mother language, French is. Use my recruitment code MV9YGNXD before paying your sub and get cool items. http://sqex.to/Cz9
I am not in favor of a cash shop at all and I don't know why this game needs it. But I do understand that some people will want this and will embrace it. A MMO is all about choice and even though I won't use the cash shop, I won't demonize or mock those who made the choice to use it (as long as the items remain to be vanity only).
I can also understand the impassioned argument by those who are against a cash shop based on past MMOs, but it can also be seen as a slippery slope argument. I will see how Square handles the cash shop and show respect for the players who want the cash shop.

I highly, HIGHLY doubt FFXIV will become F2P. They make way too much money with subs. My idea is they are going to sell prior special instance vanity, maybe some 1.X glamour stuff, and a few special in shop only minions and mounts. It adds to variety, nothing game breaking, and if they don't sell Gil, I'll be happy.

I don't understand why this is going too far but things like collectors edition, plush moogle, art book, soundtracks (which all include bonus in game items) aren't.
By this logic, aren't they all one in the same? Where is all the outrage about the items I mentioned? I can't recall ever seeing any.

People argue that you're getting a physical item with the in-game item, so it doesn't count. But like...what if I want that Wind Up Enterprise minion but don't want to drop $30 or whatever on the artbook? I'd much rather spend $5 for a minion in a cash shop than buy a physical item I don't want just to get an exclusive in game item. Hell - why did people not complain about the Digital CEs they released when the game launched? Those were $20 more and all you got was bonus minions, mounts, and vanity gear.
Also, I think people need to be aware that these item prices are much cheaper than many MMO cash shops, even for sub games like WoW (where minions/pets are $10 and mounts are $25.) And WoW has had a cash shop for a while and THEIRS actually has pay-to-win features (extra loot chances and bonus EXP boosts, instant Level 90 character, etc) and they're still a sub game.
I support a vanity only cash shop like we're getting. I don't look at that as double dipping so long as there's no pay-to-win elements in it.

Let's take the soundtracks for example. The game already includes all the music. I can listen to it on YouTube anytime I want. Obviously I bought them purely for the minions.
What's so evil about SE cutting out the physical item and selling me the minion instead? The soundtracks are almost 50 dollars each. The minions in the store are 5.
I just don't get what the commotion is all about. They've been happily taking money from suckers like me since FFXI. The only difference is us suckers are saving money now.
They're going to open the cash shop and it's going to be a massive success and in a few months everyone will forget what they were ever mad about.
